Hello.

I'm not good at the introduction thing, and anyway I've been subsisting on beers with an ABV of nothing less than 8% and and IBU of nothing lower than 72. So I'll cut to the chase.

It's this article that finally led me to register: http://www.zerohedge.com/article/why-avoiding-traditional-path-university-education-will-help-yes-help-your-children-survive-

It was a friend at TIU who referred me.

You see, I'm one of those kids who now realizes that he has been doing nothing but wasting his parents' money on a public university education. I'm a liberal arts student (English major/journalism minor) who is completely fed up with being fed a diet lacking in educational nutrition. God forbid you even mention the truth in a university classroom...ugh, it's disgusting.

I transferred from a nice university in the mountains of the southeast to a shitfaced school in the biggest city in the United States. I lie to myself and say that it's because I wanted to learn culture and felt left out, but truly what prompted my move was a lady. (We're still together if that matters, but I'm on the verge of a mental breakdown. This place is the antithesis to natural living and a tribe of snakes runs the entire show from here as its vantage point. Yep, I learned that the hard way. As with everything else it seems.)

I digress. I need some help.

My parents won't listen to my concerns about gold and silver (at least the one paying the bills) so my research falls on deaf ears. Quite honestly, I feel impotent regarding the matter. It's really sad that people are so trapped in this material paradigm that they cannot even bother their own mind to ponder the "bigger picture." Yet, as written in the article, "bigger picture" rhetoric they tend to associate with "college degree" rhetoric.

At the moment, I'm broke as shit. Overdrawn account broke. I start job-training tomorrow for a shitty part time job, but it's better than nothing as my obligations are still to a full-time school schedule in light of the fact my current existence is entirely contingent upon my enrollment. (Again, I'm thankfully supported by parents who can. Barely.)

I digress again. Point is, where do I start with all of this shit? I'm going to start setting aside money to "invest" but I have no idea where to begin. I have nothing substantial to "invest" in any market, but I need to know where to begin. Given the state of everything (my personal situation included) I'm at the point where all I'm ready to do is move in a direction that will at least prove somewhat beneficial.

If one were to begin with nothing, but wanted to learn enough about investing and the G/S markets, where would he begin? Given that money will be coming little by little, where should that little bit of money go to ultimately take it the farthest? I'm ready to make some serious changes. This is the place I want to begin.

Are there books I should read? Where should I put money when I get it? Essentially, what should I do?

I'm no dipshit, rather I like to consider myself a "victim of circumstance" in my weakest moments. I'm a self-teacher. I know how to listen. I know how to think. Sometimes, I even know how to act.

Can anyone point me in the right direction, or is my situation simply too desperate to even consider jumping into this "game?"

I'm looking forward to changing my situation. I want to learn about the markets. I want to start playing smart while I still can.

Can you help me? Am I just a lost cause?

Thanks.

Welcome. Start with buying 90% silver dimes, at today's spot @$2.09 each, so when you get to 50 dimes, you will have 3.617 troy oz. Good luck!

To jump start your education, you must read The Creature From Jekyll Island by G. Edward Griffin. I know you can find a pdf floating around the web somewhere, but it's such a big book that you really ought to buy a hard copy. That book was instrumental in my education and for many others here too. Second, read or download the audio book of What Has Government Done to Our Money? by Murray Rothbard. You can find that here:

PDF - http://mises.org/books/whathasgovernmentdone.pdf

Audio Book Files - http://mises.org/media.aspx?action=category&ID=92?afid=21

Then read Fiat Paper Money by Ralph T. Foster: http://www.amazon.com/Fiat-Paper-Money-Evolution-Currency/dp/0964306611

Those books will give you a great foundation to understand the monetary system we have today and why it is vital to own some precious metals.

Then, like others have suggested, with every spare dollar buy some silver dimes. Even a handful of silver dimes will be more than 99% of your peers.

uncletonoose's input is exactly where you need to start. There's lots of us "poor" people that have managed to squirrel away a lil bit at a time using this method.

Now, if you really want to do yourself and your parent's a favor, quit the dipshit school you're in and go to a vocational tech school or go learn a trade such as being a blacksmith or solar tech or mechanic.

Well thought out 1st post.

A good way to start is with nutrition and exercise. Surviving on beer is not an indication of a long term commitment.

Beer is the nectar of the free ;D and distilled products the offspring of the divine. No good patriot should go for lack of either.

Thank you for all of your replies.

I've got a good reading list and at least a basic plan of action.

Is there a preferred/reputable coin dealer(s) that is/are endorsed by those of you here?

Thanks. :P

American Precious Metals Exchange, or APMEX, is one of the best online dealers. Very fair in both buy and sell prices. However, if you're going to be buying small amounts, the shipping charges will most likely make it not worth your while. Just look around your area for a brick and mortar coin shop, go in and strike up a conversation with the owner. It's easier to buy small amounts locally, and there's no paper trail.

The best way to acquire coin is to go to a local dealer or jewelry store.

Pop into every jewelry store in your town, ask if they have any gold or silver coin/bars to sell. You will be surprised how many do have some they will sell. I always try to negotiate prices...

Next is to go to a search engine, put in "your town name coin shops", and see what comes up.

Push for a price as close to spot as you can. After making some purchases (start small), you will get the hang of it.

You may be able to find one that better represents your local market.

[I'm still getting used to seeing the prices in Canadian dollar cheaper than American dollar.]

Well since you are a goyim, perhaps you should self-identify and take out a huge student loan. Use that loan to buy hookers and blow, and a couple silver dimes.

If you are not here to BS us, then you should buy some silver as you can, and start prepping the more obvious things, like food, water, tampons and other stuff that you might need. Guns and ammo might be a nice item to have, but you would seem to be in NYC, so, maybe you can get a lighter and some hair spray.

Get your food and water preps in order, then your guns and roses, then your gold and silver. I agree with poster above that suggests that you stock up on knowledge of real production skills as opposed to paper/virtual finance and/or arts education. The artists are already broke, the finance paper pushers will be next and the last guy to down in flames is the one that builds all the crap for the rest of the intellectual elites that didn't think to ever learn how to turn a wrench.

Nice first post and interesting to put it in preps?

Reading the protocol of the Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion will help you understand the evil of the Global Elite. My husband has read them several times, I have skimmed through them a few times but am spending time reading them more thoroughly now.
As someone else mentioned, Ron Pauls favorite book called The Creature from Jeckyl Island.
My husband really liked the book: The collapse of the dollar by Craig Smith although there are better places to buy gold and silver at less commission, etc.
As far as accumulating anything without being a human preditor, It's all blood, sweat and tears. All your labor should be invested in something real.
* Friends of kindred spirit
* Land, guns, ammo, food, fuel and shelter to protect family and friends
* Necessities need to come first and then you can purchase silver and gold. Silver and Gold doesn't make you any money but it retains purchase power.

I'm a couple years ahead of you, but can relate. Finishing the last semester of college myself in a very liberal area. I'm an ex-Socialist.

I'm in no way an expert myself, so I find myself specializing in one specific area (naturopathy/alternative medicine/food), to fight back/help others who are awake or I want to awaken. Some of the people on these forums are hardcore who live off the grid, and many others are armchair revolutionaries who are preppers (are a lot more prepared than regular folk.) I think it's more about how honest you want to be with yourself, and try to grow as an individual. Reguardless the person, I find I've gained a lot, ranging from curing uncurable diseases they I've had, to putting my finances in proper order, and SEEING more. You see more around you when you know more.

There's a lot of "fields" of things, as in, ways to protect yourself and fight back. You may wanna lurk a while, and find something that interests you, and specialize in educating yourself, since trying to absorb everything is very difficult. Some people know more about the cultural "diversity", Gold/Silver markets, survivalism, and so on.

On the Gold/Silver front I'm wishing I had gone against what my family advised me against MORE. I bought around 150 oz of silver @$9 an ounce and they thought I was insane, but ironically the largest critics, and the ones who laughed the hardest at me now take me the most seriously. If you want to wake up people around you, you'll be extremely disappointed and cause a lot of mayhem since most people like being slaves. I've found the best way is to lead by example, and eventually some of them will see the things you say/do come to pass and they will wake up as well.

So buy some Gold, Silver, and a gun (if you don't have one.) Learn to use a gun if you don't have one, it will greatly empower you as an individual. It's good to diversify in both Gold and Silver. You may want to check out some YouTube channels on precious metals like SGTbull07 (http://www.youtube.com/user/SGTbull07), or check out radio shows like Patriot Trading Group (http://patriotarchives.blogspot.com/). If you have almost no money, pick up something like mercury dimes (http://www.providentmetals.com/1-face-value-90-silver-mercury-dime.html) or other junk Silver to get started. If you have a $1k or so, maybe load up on some American Silver Eagles, or Silver Rounds (which are cheaper, but are harder to resell.) American Buffalos are my personal favorite round since they are made by the US Mint, but are cheap as Hell. Also, stay away from proofs, and don't buy into the hype for the pre-1933 Gold Saint Gaudens that coin dealers will tell you the gov't can't confiscate since it's BS. Don't trust paper, because as Ponce says, "If you don't hold it, you don't own it." Also avoid paying for these things with credit cards, or you'll get huge transaction fees added, instead pay with personal check or cash (if you can.)

On the natural/medicine front, try to get a water filter to remove the fluoride from your water, (like a Berkey Light with a PF2 filter, or Reverse Osmosis.) Check out alternative medicine websites like Earth Clinic (http://www.earthclinic.com/ailments.html) to doctor yourself. Stop the aspartame, lower your intake of processed foods, and other crap. You can cure pretty much any disease ranging from cancer to a runny nose through diet, supplements, and detoxification. When you do all of this, your thinking capacity improves, your energy goes up, and you will finally know what it's like to live like a human is meant to, and throw away ALL of your medication. Ever since I made these changes in my own life I did this, and haven't gotten sick once, which is a shocker for me since I used to always be sick.

I turned 22 yesterday.

Dostoevsky hit home for me. I basically failed out of school last semester piecing together a "true" history of the world. He was essentially the embodiment of that to me. His "Diary of A Writer" is simply one of the greatest pieces of literature to ever be penned. It's a shame that Mr. Pound wasn't tuned in to the Russian writers, but I guess that was one of the few languages he didn't speak and none of their shit was translated until about the time he died. I think he'd have some great stuff to say.

I can't imagine his seizures noticeably affected his genius and literary output.

Yes, I like beer. Well, good beer. "Craft beer." There's no reason to deny oneself the finer things - variety is the spice of life.

I've come into that a bit harder recently as I've had to drastically slow down on smoking pot. I used to be a connoisseur of the stuff, dream to open a dispensary, then it became to write for a pot mag. Whatever it was I took the whole rhetoric of "do what you're passionate about" and applied to what I was passionate about. When from burning an eighth a day to maybe snapping one tiny binger a day, usually less. Mostly for financial reasons, and then because I fell apart and went straight into my head and it seemed to exacerbate my current situation. I never thought I'd say that. Recently as I've started to come out of all of that I find that it is extremely helpful in helping me maintain good comfort level. I'm taking baby steps again. But the stuff is still my favorite. So like, cannabis and hops are in the same family, hence my affinity for extremely hoppy shit. I want to TASTE the stuff. MMMM. Avery's duganA is spot-on. This new trend of black IPA's has me intrigued as well. Also, check out Southern Tier's Imperial Gemini. MMMMMMMMM. A family member is an elitist in the context of the Belgian scene. He obsesses over yeast strains and all that jazz, I guess finds some novelty in the idea that a particular brewery keeps a 400 year old yeast strain or something. Belgian ales are okay. I like hops. Lagers are piss, I hate the word.

I'd be all for taking out student loans and dropping it on metals but I have no idea how to make that worthwhile or how to trade the shit. Still need to check out the above-mentioned books. I'm at least fortunate enough to have parents who anticipated four years of college for their kids and thus have saved enough to not leave my ass stuck in a mound of debt upon graduating.

Couger suggestion is also a nice one and I'd certainly pursue that option - if I didn't live with the girl of my dreams. My SO is a perfect ten, a southern belle (brunette, mind you - not a blonde guy) doing the acting/modeling thing. Acting is her passion and I know she's going to make it so if all else fails I'll ride that wave.

I spent a lot of time in negative mode both before researching dumb religious and political shit and after. But it was after that I began to fall apart. I tell you, cities really aren't natural or conducive to healthy mental processing. You really learn a lot about yourself (and people) in one of these festering shitholes. Honestly, I just want to live in a nice cape-cod on top of a snowboard mountain out west. If I could snowboard every day, keep up a nice place, sustain myself as much as possible, maybe write a few magazine articles and travel every now and then I'd be set. "You don't have much you don't need much."

As far as getting healthy, yeah, beginning now. It starts in your head, it's taken me a long time to learn that. I'm just starting to really try to eat right and get physical. I'm in prime time of my life, my body is begging for it. First thing I'm going to buy is a decent water filter and start filling gallon jugs and storing them away (the apt. is small). I'm finally (but slowly) learning to cook for myself. Main thing for me is staying on top of my responsibilities. I have a long way to go and a lot to make up for in terms of school and the work I didn't do last semester, but hell, one foot in front of the other.

Not a tattoo, nipple ring, freak show type of guy. Clean and simple. Minimalist but nice. That type of shit. "Au naturelle."

Was doing really well with eating nothing but good shit but found it hard to maintain that lifestyle without the financial backing. Now SO does the full time waiting thing and she's got cash, I got shit. So it's hard to be independent. Just applied for a couple of things, waiting to hear back. Thinking good thoughts though. Either way, just trying to ease into a balance and drop all of the negative thinking and acting.

Thanks for the words guys.
