Mixed feelings about this....
how much did the paint cost?
what will it look like in 5 or 10 years?

A "slum" is a slum only if you want to live in one, otherwise it is a home.

Of course ,its amazing what paint or color can do to lift the spirits though.

I disagree with you ximmy, if the place had been painter by some rich millionair then yes and you would be right but......... the place was painted by the people who will take pride in their work, and what's more, once in a while they will give it a new coat of paint.

You're wrong, it's strictly a matter of attitude. When visiting relatives in Mexico a few years ago they took me to a local pueblo (consisting of 'poor' people) - it was clean and absolutely SPOTLESS. Frankly I was shocked.

If it uplifts spirits, reduces some crime, and gives even 100 people a greater sense of pride, it was probably worth the $5 per person in paint imo.

At least someone tried.

With the 2016 Olympics looming, the city’s embattled police invade the favelas(slums).

I like improvement projects like this, but bear in mind the primer coat was somebody's blood. I guess that's just how it is?
