I weighed a 1 oz. gold eagle. It weighs 1.09 troy oz., because it's a 22k coin, with added copper, for hardness. Equivalent value in paper money is $1446, which is 72 $20 bills. And what does the stack of $20 bills weigh? 2.25 troy oz.!
And even silver weighs less than paper money. Silver is now $32.78, and 33 $1 bills weigh 1.05 troy oz., so paper money now weighs heavier than silver!
