Because occasionally someone has difficulty connecting to the flash client, below are some alternate methods of getting in chat:

LightIRC flash client (easiest):

Black background - recommended (click here).

Light-colored background (click here).

Instructions: Choose a nickname, leave password blank, and click connect. Once in, you can do Menu -> Register Nickname to secure your chosen nickname, and next time log in with your password.

If nothing shows up: Install Flash

To use this room with an IRC client: 1) Enter through the flash chat, click on Menu -> "Register Nickname." 2) Fill in your email and password and submit the info, then close the web chat and wait a few minutes for it all to propagate. 3) Use that nick and password to connect to room #GSUS on server irc.gngirc.com (port 6667)

Private Messages: To open a private side-chat with someone, click their name in the list and select "open a query". If someone private messages you, a new window will open. To return to the chat room, click on "GSUS" along the bottom. To flip back to the private message, click on the person's name along the bottom.

Chatzilla (firefox addon)
1) Install chatzilla from here:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/chatzilla/
2) Restart your browser.
3) Enter this link in your address bar. It will bring you into the chat room.

4) Click the button that says 'Administrator' to the left of where you type text in, and change your nickname to something else.

Connection troubles
If anyone is permanently banned from chat, its possible you're ip address is listed as a proxy. Look up your ip address here and if its listed, remove it. If you're using a proxy, you may have a difficult time using chat.
