View Full Version : What's next for Egypt? Civil War?

If the Egyptian people had access to long guns, would there be an immediate civil war?

I have the feeling the Egyptian government may be feeling confident they have the population under control because they don't have access to weapons.

But if the Egyptians had access to rifles and guns, would Mubarak tempt the People?

Editorial: What Egyptians Really Want

Posted 02/10/2011 07:20 PM ET

Islamofascism: Romantics in Western media expect "democracy" to flower from the anti-Mubarak rioting in Cairo. But polling shows Egyptians actually seek strict Islamic rule.

According to a major survey conducted last year by the Pew Research Center, adults in Egypt don't crave Western-style democracy, as pundits have blithely trumpeted throughout coverage of the unrest.

Far from it, the vast majority of them want a larger role for Islam in government. This includes making barbaric punishments, such as stoning adulterers and executing apostates, the law of their country. With the ouster of their secular, pro-American leader, they may get their wish.

Among highlights from the Pew poll:

• 49% of Egyptians say Islam plays only a "small role" in public affairs under President Hosni Mubarak, while 95% prefer the religion play a "large role in politics."

• 84% favor the death penalty for people who leave the Muslim faith.

• 82% support stoning adulterers.

• 77% think thieves should have their hands cut off.

• 54% support a law segregating women from men in the workplace.

• 54% believe suicide bombings that kill civilians can be justified.

• Nearly half support the terrorist group Hamas.

• 30% have a favorable opinion of Hezbollah.

• 20% maintain positive views of al-Qaida and Osama bin Laden.

• 82% of Egyptians dislike the U.S. — the highest unfavorable rating among the 18 Muslim nations Pew surveyed.

This empirical evidence refutes the sympathetic narrative broadcast as a continuous loop in the media over the past fortnight. Even after getting beat up by anti-American mobs, CNN's Anderson Cooper portrayed rioters as largely secular yuppies yearning for modernity and the triumph of human rights over martial law.

He and other media elite have it exactly backwards: Egyptians are revolting against Western-style democracy. The Pew poll reveals they do not, in fact, value our principles of individual freedoms, human rights and separation of religion and state.

It is plain they do not want what we want. They want an Islamic theocracy.

And it's highly irresponsible for pundits to assume they want what we do. This is serious business, and we need to deal with facts and reality on the ground and not project our values to make ourselves feel good. The media fatuously whipped up support for a "revolution" at odds with our values and interests.

Now, with a U.S. ally expected to step down, the damage may already be done. The well-organized Muslim Brotherhood, previously outlawed by Mubarak, is in the best position to take advantage of the prevailing sentiment recorded by Pew.

Radical Islamist groups may be a small part of a coalition, but they likely don't have enough support to rule outright.

As for Mubarak stepping down early or getting the boot - it rests solely on the military and their support, or lack of, for Mubarak.

We can't predict, but only discuss the many scenarios. Mubarak is/was just another American puppet with support from Israel. Pretty disgusting (once again).

Large number of youth unemployed, millions living on subsistence earnings, no hope for the future, rampant corruption and a man whose net worth 40 to 70 billions dollars.

Get out the noose.

Mubarak’s net worth estimated at USD 40 to 70 billion: report

Egypt’s embattled President Hosni Mubarak’s and his family’s net worth is estimated to be between U.S. dollars 40 and 70 billion, a media report said.

The wealth of the Egypt’s first family was built largely from military contracts during his days as an air force officer; Mr. Mubarak eventually diversified his investments through his family when he became President in 1981, the ABC News quoted experts as saying.

The family’s net worth now ranges from U.S. dollars 40 to 70 billion, by some estimates, the report said.

Amaney Jamal, a political science professor at Princeton, said those estimates are comparable with the vast wealth of leaders in other Gulf countries.

“The business ventures from his military and government service accumulated to his personal wealth. There was a lot of corruption in this regime and stifling of public resources for personal gain,” Ms. Jamal was quoted as saying.

Ms. Jamal said that Mr. Mubarak’s assets are most likely in banks outside of Egypt, possibly in the U.K. and Switzerland.

How much US taxpayer money went into Mubarak's "business ventures" and own pockets. His relatives, cronies, and supporters.

Annual aid for US arms manufacturers and direct aid (cash).

Same US model for the many foreign countries. Take the working folks' cash and then distribute it to who 'the powers that be' want it to given to.

And for supporting the Americans in Gulf War I, the USA forgave $14 billion dollars in Egypt's debt.

Keep working hard, you taxpayers: foreign despots depend on it.

ISRAEL WANTS TOTAL CONTROL OF THE FUCKING WORLD. THEY WANT TO BE THE NEXT SUPERPOWER. DON'T YOU GET IT?

Israel needs absolute control over the Mid East oil supply. They are, of course, radically opposed to any non-Jewish group having anything to do with the Middle East. And really, as long as gentiles are not plowing their fields and working in their homes for them they aren't truly happy. The time is coming.

Israel cannot launch a direct military campaign against any of these groups, or factions, ultimately peoples in general because the attack would simply be unprecedented, even in the face of all this Islamophobic brainwash they've been spewing - the world would say something. All of the brainwashed Judeo Christians and Liberals in the U.S. would even have something to say because it would mean the absolute destruction of the U.S. image in the world (among other things). SO, they NEED AN EXCUSE. What better excuse to wage all out war than to have a "Radical Islamic" faction in control of Egypt's (and other Mideast countries) governments? Israel would surely devastate, civilian casualties be absolutely ridiculous. They control Mid East oil supply, U.S. dollar collapses (no longer world reserve currency), strangle out the rest of the world. They NEED A REASON. So they create the scenario.

Jews don't want Christians in Israel. They only want Jews there.

What about Christians who want their own place? Don't even begin to say "America"...

What's next for Egypt? The cycle repeats. The old dictator leaves. The new dictator is grooming himself. It won't be long before we know who that new elite puppet will be. The people will get nothing but a temporary loosening of the noose around their necks.

The important question is who is orchestrating this wave of 'popular revolutions', what is their agenda, and which country is next. We won't see anything like this in Saudi Arabia. Yemen might be next.

Open Letter to the Egyptian Military High Command (http://europebusines.blogspot.com/2011/02/open-letter-to-egyptian-military-high.html)
To the Generals, Air Marshals and Admirals currently running Egypt:

Dear Sirs:

Yours is a unique opportunity. Your nation has gone through a massive popular revolution. Regardless of what forces helped to arrange/push the revolution, it was the masses of your people that demanded, at risk to their very lives, significant change in their nation. In the mist of this revolution, the people insisted that they and the Armed Forces were one. That was not only a wise strategic choice, but it was the gut feeling of the masses of YOUR people.

They hold you in a special place in their hearts. That you are personally close to the former regime does not matter to them, they TRUST IN YOU AND YOUR ARMED FORCES!

Former President Mubarak was neither the worst nor best of leaders. Even if his families wealth is or is not in the US$50-70 Billion range, we all know that he enriched himself massively in a nation where most people struggle to have enough to feed themselves and their families.

If YOU put your minds to it, and your will power to it, and all the resources that you can marshal to it, you can dramatically change Egypt for the better. If you put your nation first. Now is the time in history, where you ... where each of you as human beings ... now have it dropped on your shoulders ... the very future and quality of life for all of your nation. Can...actually the question is WILL YOU RISE TO THE OPPORTUNITY FOR GREATNESS for yourselves and your people, the very people that so totally count on you.

No one requires that you place foreign interests, and personal greed, above the Egyptian People that today are so counting on each and every one of you. It is totally up to you to decide the future for your people. Hopefully you will avoid war, but beyond that there is so very much that you ... and only you, now in this very time period, can do.

Make Egypt a shining example of how to run the future. Make the lives of your people much, much better. Put real excitement and faith in the task of the people and the government to make Egypt better. Begin by organizing local committees to work to beautify local neighborhoods, local business areas. Find a way, to employee millions of young, and not so young, Egyptians to make Egypt the shinning example of what the world can be. Do not let your nation's future be one of greed, and exploitation, but one of beautify, of education, of a social compact between the people and their government with THEIR Armed Forces ensuring that no future dictators arise to exploit the people. Make the streets, the public areas, the business areas, the home streets of the masses, including the poorest of your nation, look dramatically better and in doing so, put many unemployed people to work.

The near and not-so-near future is yours to lose or to win with great success. Only you can make the necessary choices. And there is no time better than right now.
