A magnitude 7.0 earthquake occurred 30 miles north from the Chilean city of Concepcion, the United States Geological Survey reports. The depth of the earthquake was 11 miles.
According to Reuters, Chile's state emergency office said no damage was yet reported and there was no immediate tsunami threat.
A witness told Reuters that buildings in the capital city of Santiago shuddered from the tremors.
