Never seen a 4oz Engelhard loaf before, might be rare. I had 7 or 8 of the old style 10oz loaves before my sinking.

you know what, i'm digging those out. i also have some weird nevada shaped things that i think were supposed to be important. i have all sorts of oddball pieces from around 2001 or so when dealers couldn't give it away.

hopefully i will have an oddball ebay auction soon. might as well sell it and replace with generic whatever if people are buying for stupid prices like that.

I do not know much about Engelhard loafs except that there are some collectible value placed on certain old pour style Engelhard loafs that were minted in the 1970's. The only Engelhard silver bar that I have is a 1-oz Engelhard Canada bar and I paid close to spot for it at a coin show last year.

As for silver selling at $127/oz on ebay, Here is some sticker shock for some of you.

The following 1-oz silver art bars have sold for a lot more than $127 on ebay:

1. 1981 World Wide Mint Coca-Cola-Youngstown. Had a winning bid of $752 on November 9, 2010. That is the highest winning bid that I have seen for ANY 1-oz silver art bar on ebay.

2. 1981 World Wide Mint Coca-Cola - Mt. Hood. I saw a winning bid that was over $400 on an auction last year.

3. 1982 World Wide Mint Coca-Cola - Corinth. The winning bid in the most recent auction was $546.00

4. 1986 World Wide Mint Coca-Cola - Frederick. There were two auctions that I observed that winning bids of over $500.00.

5. Certain GreatHouse Productions silver art bars that were minted from 1979 to 1981. Specifically GreatHouse art bars that had Disney 50th Anniversary themes that had winning bids of between $130 to $200.

There are some other 1-oz silver art bars that I have not mentioned that will probably have a winning bid of more than $127 on ebay. Keep in mind that the ones that I mentioned above are very rare and are very hard (if not impossible) to find locally at a coin shop or at a coin show for .999 generic silver. Generally speaking, 1-oz silver art bars will sell for a higher premium than an SAE on ebay. With spot at the current level of just under $30, a lot of 1-oz '70's silver art bars are selling for between $38.00 to $50.

It fetched that price because it's a rare collectible piece. It'd be like one of those rare Silver Eagles going for $100+; it's not because the silver is worth $100/oz, it's because of the numismatic/collectible value in the piece.

Let us know when you put your auctions up. I'm always into rare and unusual silver pieces.
