MOUNTLAKE TERRACE, Wash. -- Is it a UFO or a loose part of a plane?

A Snohomish County woman sure would like to know after a mystery chunk of metal fell from the sky and hit her home.

The piece of metal fell from the sky, bounced of Theresa Kauffman's roof and landed on her back deck.

"It was hauling when it came," she said. "If somebody would have been out here when it came, it probably would have killed them."

What fell was a small, light metal panel about the size of a washing machine door. It's black on one side, white on the other with a couple of dings from the impact.

And it made a sound which, as Kauffman puts it, sounded like "Woo woo woo!"

Now Kauffman wants to know what it is and where it came from.

"This is the strangest thing that's happened to me," she said. "I've never had anything this weird happen like this before."

Kauffman says she heard the thing coming about 15 seconds before it hit. So she's sure someone didn't just throw it, and it didn't fall out of a tree. And it didn't fall off of a truck, either, as Kauffman doesn't live by the highway.

But she does live on a hill.

Her best guess? "I thought it was off an airplane. That was my thought," she said.

Kauffman gave the mystery piece to officials at Paine Field. But they have no idea what it is.

Flight records show only one plane flew over Kauffman's home, and the pilots found no parts missing.

And the piece of metal features no rivets or serial numbers.

So could it be what hit Kauffman's roof came from a galaxy far far away, a close encounter from outer space?

"Ooh, I don't know," she said.

Kauffman says she's already received a couple calls from UFO fanatics. But the incident hasn't made a believer out of her.

"I don't really believe in them," she said. "Somebody's got to be responsible for it. It doesn't rain sheet metal, you know."

So the mystery lives on, at least for now.

Pretty simple, really. It is an object, it is to date unidentified and prior to hitting her house it was at least falling through the air which can be interpreted as flying. Therefore, it was essentially a UFO. What about UFO implies extra-terrestrial? It seems to me that is how you parse the term, anyway.

Well, that's how they insinuate it. Why make a news story/video out of something like that? I have scrap exactly like that in my garage. If you move it, it makes that sound she described. Big deal. Seems like a chicken little story to me.

If they didn't want you to think of ET then why did they use the term "UFO"?

My response must be considered under the light that I have not viewed the OP video and I just now read the OP paragraphs. ^-^

Looks like the front piece of a dishwasher. I took one off just like that. I was wondering where the wind blew that sucker.

Credibility gap: how did she know it came straight down when she was inside?

My take on the interview .
Key lines were ,
if someone had of been out here and it hit 'em it probably would have killed them .
I have a little dog and my daughter .
Someones gotta be responsible for it.

Oh the nightmares she will probably have thinking about what could have happened to her little dog , oh or her daughter even. Sad she puts her dog before her child .
Were there dollar signs in her eyes ?

Unidentified Flying Object is a common term, we have hundreds of UFOs verified by NORAD. The military also uses this term. Nobody is saying they are aliens.

Yes. I hate it when people say stupid things like, "UFO's don't exist.". UFO is a neutral term. It's simply something in the air that hasn't yet been identified, it could mean aliens from a distant planet or it could mean a plastic bag.

Yeah, but many people use words/abbreviations without any thought as to their actual meanings.

That looks like the front panel of a dishwasher from the 1990's. The panel is revesible so you can match the color of your white of black fridge. Probably mischievious kids.

That's what I said. I took a sheet off just like that from the front of my old dishwasher. I didn't know that Frigidare made UFOs.
