Yesterday, the governor signed into law a law allowing concealed carry of firearms without a permit.
10 years ago you could still buy regular gas....drink alcohol while driving and wave a loaded ak47 while walking down main st.....and you would have commited no crime..but with the influx of easterners, we had to change a few laws because the @rsholes were screwing things up.its good to see a law go into effect that actually frees things up!.....and,YES, im packing my glock as we speak. ;D

Does anyone else smell the irony and doublethink in legislation that enables previously enacted legislation (2nd Amendment) to proceed uninhibited? It seems all that is necessary is the abolition of gun laws not the addition of more.

In a just world, where common sense prevailed, we could probably thrive without 99.9% of the laws currently in place. Unfortunately I don't think that world will ever exist so you gotta take what you can get sometimes I guess.

Really? I didn't hear about that. I've got my CCW permit but it would be nice to not have to pay the fees to renew it.

Concealed-carry bill gets initial OK in Colorado House

Representative Claire Levy of the House Judiciary Committee. (Joe Amon, The Denver Post)Coloradans eligible to pack heat but who don't want to get a concealed-carry permit would be able to carry a concealed handgun under a bill that won initial approval Tuesday in the state House.
Under House Bill 1205, anyone who meets the criteria — which would not include people barred for reasons such as felonies, mental health and substance abuse problems or domestic violence convictions — could carry a concealed gun without a permit, although permits would still exist.
Critics, who include police chiefs and advocates for victims of domestic violence, say that under the bill, there would be no way to screen out those with felonies or other disqualifying factors because people carrying concealed guns would

be expected to police themselves.
Rep. Chris Holbert, R-Parker, the bill's sponsor, pointed to Vermont, which does not require a permit to carry a concealed gun. He said it is "insulting" to require him to have a concealed-carry permit when current Colorado law already allows him to carry a concealed weapon on his own property and in his car.
Holbert said the $152 concealed-carry permit fee is nothing more than a "coat tax."
But a number of Democrats said repealing the requirement for a concealed-carry permit would send the message that anyone can carry concealed weapons at any time. Domestic-violence offenders, substance abusers and people with mental health problems would feel more free to carry weapons, they argued.
The Colorado Association of Chiefs of Police noted that in 2010, 1,284 people who applied for concealed-carry permits were denied for such reasons as domestic-violence offenses, mental health commitments, substance addictions and felonies. These people would now be on an honor system and expected to weed themselves out, critics say.
"We will not be promoting public safety if our police chiefs, who are very strongly opposed to this bill, do not have any way of knowing who is armed and who is not (during traffic stops)," argued Rep. Claire Levy, D-Boulder. "I do not want to have to worry when my children go down to the park to play that there are people there who have concealed weapons."
Rep. Deb Gardner, D-Boulder, said it was inevitable that a police officer in Colorado would be killed if the bill becomes law.
But Republicans retorted that police now have no way of knowing who is armed during a traffic stop, since the law allows the carrying of concealed weapons in cars by those who are qualified. And they argued that people who can't get concealed weapons now because of a disqualification already might carry concealed regardless of the law.
Levy asked why Holbert wasn't proposing to do away with concealed-carry permits altogether. Holbert said some people still might want them because Colorado has reciprocity agreements with other states, and having a concealed-carry permit would allow someone traveling to carry a concealed weapon in another state without fear of breaking the law.
The Republican-led House gave initial approval to the bill on a voice vote and must approve it once more on a recorded vote before it can go to the Democratic-controlled Senate, where its prospects are bleak.

You know that you will still be able to get a permit just so that you can carry in other states.
