View Full Version : Wanting some wool military blankets for prepping

I just started looking briefly online for wool military blankets, some for prepping and then I want to fix up emergency kits for my older grandchildren for their vehicles. Is $25 per blanket a good price? That seems to be average of what I did look at. Just wondering if anyone has purchased any and if they have an outlet that they know is good & that the quality is good also.
I am also buying more " mickey mouse bunny boots" My feet are a great test for cold as I can't keep them warm. I purchased a pair of these boots a year ago, and they keep my feet so warm in the worst of weather. Bulky, but worth it. I am going to get at least one more, maybe two pairs of them. I don't even think it would be a bad idea to put in the trunk for my grandkids in case they would get trapped in this winter weather. Any input appreciated.

Sounds high to me. But....inflation.
I bought about a dozen wool blankets from a place called Major Surplus (online).
If they were $25 I never would have bought any.
No complaints. They were all in good condition. Even got a couple super heavy german military ones.
Wool socks also. Several pairs of Swedish mil-surp.

I would avoid the cheap Harbor Freight ones from China. I bought some last year, they are ok but I would spend a little more on something nicer.

I have been looking for two 18 year old girls that can't see well or at all to keep me warm. My wife is against this search?

Instead, how about a couple of young sheep to bed with you?

Thanks for the "linky" sunnyandseventy...

Sorry, I am no fun at all, I would have to agree with your wife on this one!! But I am curious why you don't want them to be able to see??

If they could see, they would be in the same bed as him.

Here's a selection and some of them are a lot cheaper.

Sportsman's Guide has some excellent gear, i bought enough military clothing to last me 5 years about a month ago from them. A surplus axe arrived in the mail today, Swedish, $22.50, best ******* axe i have ever handled. The Swiss and German gear seems to be of the best quality in clothing. Fast shipping, all boxes well packed. The 20 mm ammo can i purchased was used once maybe, good seals, no rust. A well made wool blanket is very valuable at times, they have a good selection.

Anyone that knows me - knows I love the wool blankets..socks...ect...mmmm... (70-100% blankets have always been 15-30 depending on used/quality)

anyway - as a rule for the blankets - 70%+ wool should weigh around 5 lbs - the best are 100% wool but they are tough to find...the absolute best ones I ever found were.... swedish officers blankets...

Those use to be $25 when I stocked up....last year or two. I am seeing them on the net now for $90 - $150!!!!! I wish I bought more than 4 a while a back! These are great because they don't look like you are living in a surplus store - great everyday blankets. Still a great value at that price IMO - I would buy more if I hadn't grabbed some already.

I'd stay with 100% - these are usually officer blankets - Italian ones like this are good - $25 for these...

They appear to be out of those...but have these....mmm..I just ordered some...white hospital 100% virgin wool blankets...dang you!!!!!!!!

I ordered 10 blankets from sportsman guide to see how I liked them. Paid $14 for 5 and $18 for the other 5. They seem like nice, heavy blankets, I am not sorry. My husband told me to just get some as the prices will keep going up on everything so not to price shop too long.
I am going to check out each sight everyone has shared and see where I order next. I don't really know how many to get. Thanks to all of you.
