We have an outdated crumbling infrastructure.
While they've spent billions keeping up appearances,
the fascist government has been divesting in the US for the past 40 years.
In other words, no.

The problem we have in this country is that there are so many idiots. When the next LARGE earthquake hits CA, I fully suspect the savages to start raping, robbing, and rioting within hours.

If a Japan-level event happened here I suspect a lot of old scores would be settled under the cover of confusion and lack of manpower. Common thugs would quickly meet their ends with the system offline and not using them as a wedge. On their own they would meet disappointment that all the propaganda they've been fed is not true and people do shoot after all, and with the will to terminate threats, not negotiate with them. It only takes the right set of circumstances to educate savages in effective ways.

Back during one of the large quakes they had in California, many elevated roads fell, they did a study and determined that any road girder that had a bearing of 24 inches or less failed
Right after that study the DOT was building a new couple mile long elevated road over the wetlands here and how wide did they make the column tops?
Answer: 48" which means that even if the road girders were placed exactly dead center (which they were not) you would have a bearing surface of 24" which is exactly what California had determined would fail.
I have zero faith that the U.S. is prepared

Wow, bunch of geniuses. Let me guess, Caltrans? The only thing flexible with Caltran's union, is how many strokes they can use while jerking each other off all day on the taxpayer dime.

No, the road was built here in Washington state, but they had access to the study that California did because they used it as a basis to justify retrofitting several bridges in the same area.
Now the roads that fell in CA were built on solid ground and the one built here in WA was built on mush, it was so soft that pilings had to be driven down up too 70 feet deep which means that during an earthquake the entire valley under the road will turn into a bowl of jello.
The road was built knowing that in all probability it will fail in the event of a major quake
