Tons of comments follow the article:

http://www.reddit.com/r/reddit.com/comments/g4f5i/should_be_front_page_my_parents_and_friends_are/

Hi Reddit, I've been a lurker for a year or so now and I've always wanted to contribute something of value but never known what - now my dear friend has asked me to "tell the world...pls".

My parents and friends are reporting via tweets and facebook that the 1,000+ Saudi troops in Bahrain have started hunting down villages that are populated by Shia protesters. I'm 21 and the best comparison I can give is when you get 5+ stars in Grand Theft Auto - tanks EVERYWHERE. They are now actively taking occupying these villages and shooting to kill. I'm a Politics student and it is clear to me that what Bahrain is doing contravenes various United Nations charters and I cannot understand why this is being allowed to happen. This is a desperate situation. Above all, its so unfortunate that other, very distressing events are happening across the world because unfortunately the media only want to cover the 'top 3' bad things and then move back on to useless filler. Hopefully Reddit can help spread the word.

TL:DR - PLEASE spread the word - Bahrain has roughly 1,500 troops roaming around where the population is 1,000,000. Scaled up, that's like 90,000 troops roaming around the UK, doing what they will. Also AMA if you want more info on political background etc as I know not everyone has had a first hand experience of the Middle East.

UPDATE : The press are now reporting exactly what the Government has said which is that there will be a State of Emergency for perhaps three months. This is still not good enough. If anyone can find a decent video feed of what is happening in the villages in Bahrain then I would be very grateful - they are essentially raiding these people's homes and apparently some have been kidnapped. It is not as simple as it is currently being reported.

UPDATE 2: Ok so I've received a video since having put up that picture. This is the video of the man who had his head blown apart. GORE - BAD - whatever you want to label it, this is what is happening in Bahrain. The video is available on a Facebook page, I hope that you are all able to see it although I do warn that it is very nasty. As I have now been informed the man's name is Ahmed Farhan. He was 24 years old and I'm grateful for any messages of support for his family and friends as more Bahrainis read this themselves.

UPDATE 3: Reddit has been amazing! Thank you all for your positive messages of support and to all those that are shocked by the video above, I hope you can appreciate that sensationalising is not the aim here. However, it is in uncontrolled areas like Reddit that you can get a real glimpse into what is happening. My heart bleeds for those in Japan, Libya, Egypt, Tunisia and all the other places around the world that are also falling/have fallen into chaos. Thank you to everyone for taking time to give Bahrain some of your attention and to those who have been annoyed by my rather pleading title, please accept my apologies but something like this is very close to home. In fact, its happening right there, right now :(

BBC News now running story about how ambulances have been shot at by police and troops, seized and then used to shoot protestors. At least these stories are coming to light - check out the video here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-12752675

White House/Pentagon:
"We had no idea the Saudi's were going to invade!!!" :sarc: :oo-->

US Fleet Commander Met Head of Bahrain Defense Forces Before Crackdown; Opposition Leaders Arrested (http://firedoglake.com/2011/03/17/us-fleet-commander-met-head-of-bahrain-defense-forces-before-crackdown-opposition-leaders-arrested/)

After the Bahraini attack on the Pearl Roundabout and residents of local villages, and the siege of the Salmaniya Hospital, the next phase of the crackdown took place overnight with a roundup of leading activists and opposition leaders. I’ll have more on that in a minute, but first, I continue to be surprised by the claims coming from Washington that the White House and Pentagon had no idea the Saudis were heading into Bahrain or that the crackdown was prepared for this week.

This claim continues to ring ever-so-hollow...(continued..)

Me too. Heads blown wide open. Disgustingly tragic.
