vehicle explodes on 5th ave nyc

I got a text from a friend after we left the pub around 6pm tonight, he heard it and saw smoke.

Something blew up on 5th ave around 30th street in Manhattan.

I searched twitter just now (almost home, on my mobile) and saw something about 6 cans of propane.

Car bomb?? Wtf happened?

That doesn't look anything like a car bomb. Vehicle is mostly in tact and none of the surrounding buildings look damaged. No debris on the street.

My guess is it was a legitimate explosion. Shit like this happens a lot more than you hear about. When it happens downtown NY you hear about it. When it blows windows out of residential homes and debris breaks through roofs a few blocks away you hear about it. But the fact remains, this shit just happens without anyone being a terrorist or doing anything more than being dumb and/or negligent.

Cylinders of compressed gas require a certain degree of respect.

+1, the tires still have air in them, so this "might" have been a van running on propane or something like that. If no jews died it wasn't a terrorist attack. ;D
