I know that to many of you I am making a BIG deal out of this but to me this is a new game in town....... this year it has snowed 5 times more that in all my ten years that I have been living here put together, at this time it is still snowing and have about 4-6 inches of snow on the ground.................anyone read anything as to the why of so much snow this year?, not counting the conspiracy deals.

I live in an area where snow is expected for a long time. This winter has kicked our butts. All of barry's stimulus money that went into all these wonderfully reblacktopped roads is wasted. Our roads are crumbling right now.
Peoples roofs are damages, and a lot of money has been spent pushing snow around as there was no where to put it.
Our local paper said it's because of global warming. Seriously. Several days ago.

A lot of times, weather patterns get "locked in" for months at a time. What amazes me is that these large features (like the cold jet stream trough that has been giving you this snow pattern) have wavelengths of thousands of miles, yet they seem to lock in local weather impact on a scale of tens of miles. In the Boston area, it seems if we get one storm, we'll get one a week for five weeks. And if one barely misses us, the next five will also barely miss us. You'd think that the randomness of such large features would make this even out at the local scale (i.e. get one, barely miss the next), but it doesn't seem to work that way.
Look at the Washington, DC area and eastern Virginia last winter. They average about 20 inches of snow a year, yet they got storm after storm, giving the area 70-100 inches, which is about a fifty-year occurrence. This year? Nearly all misses.
Same here this January. Five week in a row getting every storm, for 60-80". Then the spigot was turned off in early February.
Lesson: Weather typically occurs in clusters.

Hang on Ponce, Spring will bust out shortly and the signs are showing up.
I am in WA state and I have a plum tree that is starting to bloom, my raspberries are starting to bud and have many hummingbirds that don't migrate anymore but the ones that do showed up yesterday in pretty good numbers and are fighting over the feeders, plus I was on the deck last night an the sky was full of Canada Geese just before dark heading North making a big racket.

Been one of the top 10 snow years for us already since 1860's. Getting pounded with one after the other. Thankfully the last 2 have been rain.... that way instead of losing power and multiple car pile ups, you get washed out roads and flooded basements.... >:(

Remember to buy EXTRA roofing material for later when there won't be any to buy.......telling this because is what happened to my dad's house in Cuba........I have three extra rolls of roofing material put away plus some 20X40 material to cover the whole roof, if I have to.

The longer the sun remains quiet, the higher the chances of a prolonged series of cold winters and shorter summers. This is the quietest sun we have seen in almost a century. The current solar cycle, which began in 1996, was expected to reach a minimum and transition to a new solar cycle in January 2007, post 11 years. It did not, although we have crossed 13+ years and are still counting in January 2010. We are experiencing an historically deep solar minimum! For those who study the sun, the length of the solar cycle, lasting an average of 11 years, has proven to be the best historical indicator of short-term climate. At the end of these solar cycles, sunspot activity first declines, and then picks up markedly, typically indicating the beginning of a new cycle. However, the slow return to the next phase of the solar cycle at present may portend a general decline in solar activity. 2008 was a sunspot “bear market” and 2009 was no better according to NASA. There were no sunspots observed on 78% of the days in 2008. To find a year with more blank suns, we have to go all the way back to 1913. Sunspots for 2009 dropped even lower: there were no sunspots on 90% of the days by April.

The worst part of it, is that there is no end in sight yet to increasingly cold winters & cool summers coming to you, Ponce.

Maybe La Nina.
The snow-thrower sits idle since Feb 3.
Very warm & windy here today.
It was like walking around the Sahara with all the sand blowing around.

Hey Ponce, you had 1,755 rolls last year. Did you break down and actually start using that stuff?
Maybe La Nina.

It's not "snow" on the west coast. That white stuff you are getting is nuclear oxidized zirconium (rod casings).
So, you might call it La Ninja.

I thought you started using the less valuable federal reserve notes.... and they wash up better, softer- with each use.

Not a bad suggestion. It isn't terribly hard to store the necessary materials on a fairly long term basis. Those materials are not getting any cheaper and when you need them you really fucking need them.

i thought it was beautiful. even the hills in Mendocino were covered in white today, while further south the trees were blossoming, obviously convinced that it's spring.
in Oregon sometimes the snow level comes down to 1500 feet, or lower.
it's f'ing raining everywhere. f'ing pouring in Sonoma County.

Someone said the more trees you cut done the more it rains and snows?
Trees hold water, the water has to go some where.
We are needing rain here but in a way I like it:-)
Can't beat sunny and warm with breeze.

Blood pressure pills either reduce hearts output or reduce resistance in the blood vessels or reduce blood volume, they all have the same effect though, the brain gets less blood= less brain power. Ponce it is time you do a fast! Flush the pills, you have deteriorated mentally. You will get sharper!
