Procter & Gamble raises detergent prices
http://www.reuters.com/resources/r/?m=02&d=20110318&t=2&i=366005486&w=460&fh=&fw=&ll=&pl=&r=2011-03-18T212743Z_01_BTRE72H1NME00_RTROPTP_0_PROCTER
(Reuters) - Procter & Gamble Co (PG.N) will raise detergent prices by 4.5 percent in June as the world's largest household products maker starts to respond to rising costs for materials, packaging and transportation.
The maker of Tide, Gain and Era laundry detergents said the increase would go into effect on June 6. Prices that shoppers pay are ultimately set by retailers.
P&G and other consumer products makers are dealing with higher costs for paper, aluminum and other goods used in product manufacturing, as well as higher transportation costs. Companies have been cautiously rolling out price increases as shoppers remain cost-conscious, especially in light of rising gasoline prices.
In late February, P&G said that it would raise some prices as it expected more than $1 billion in increased commodity costs this year, as prices for diesel and other necessities climb. At that time, the company also said that its sales goals may be under pressure if business does not improve in the United States and other developed markets.
According to Weeden & Co analyst Javier Escalante, P&G will actually raise the list prices on powder detergents by about 13 percent and reduce the frequency and depth of promotions on liquid detergents.
Separately, Starbucks Corp (SBUX.O) said it would raise prices on the packaged coffee sold in grocery stores as coffee commodity prices continue to rise.
WILL PAMPERS BE NEXT?
During his February 24 speech, Moeller said that P&G would announce details of price increases over the next month or so. It already has raised North American prices on Duracell batteries. P&G did not announce any price increases on Friday beyond detergent, or provide additional details.
The detergent price increase followed on the heels of a smaller rival's paper products price increase. On Thursday, Kimberly-Clark Corp (KMB.N) said it would raise prices of diapers, toilet paper and baby wipes by 3 percent to 7 percent.
Escalante said that he expects P&G, which makes Pampers and Luvs diapers, to follow the lead Kimberly-Clark took. P&G's detergent price increase and the potential increases it could take on paper goods should offset about $500 million in higher commodity costs, said Escalante, who rates P&G "buy."
Shares of P&G rose 0.3 percent to $60.60 on Friday, putting them nearly flat since the beginning of the year.

I'm pretty sure I don't buy anything directly marked as P&G but I recall one of those web of ownership graphics that indicated P&G probably owns a few brands of things I do buy. I can only imagine the price hikes are across all brands of ownership.

There are no telephone books at the pay phones in southeast portland. They disappear as soon as they are installed and are used for buttwipe. Some gas stations and convienance stores will lend you the store copy, but never outside the store.

Years ago when I worked on the National Park trail crew every one of of first aid kits had a Kotex in it just in case of an axe or saw accident

One of your best bargains at the dollar store is the plastic containers to wash 32 loads of dirty clothes for one dollar......I have about fifty of them in stock........and something else about this, you DON'T need a whole capfull of the liquid soap but only half of one.....and something else, after the first cycle of washing your clothes leave them soaking in the washing machine for half hour and then start from the first clycle all over again...........your clothes will come out 300% cleaner.
I do have a couple of cases of baby wipes, the moisted one, they are good for a fast wash if you smell a little bit to much.

When we lived in L.A. we were paranoid about coming home with a pick-up load of preps. Would get that stuff off-loaded into the garage asap and move it around from there under darkness. Anyone with a pickup full of provisions in the land of convenience is a sore thumb.

You can also stock the supplies to make your own baby wipes if you so desire. We make all of our own for our 6mo old baby.
# 2 TBSP Baby Wash (choose a natural wash!)
# 2 TBSP Olive Oil
# 2 Cups water
We pour this over a half a roll of paper towels (We use Viva! brand since they are very strong when wet -- cloth like) in a lock n lock container to keep the moisture in.
HEre is a lock n lock container so you know wtf i'm talking about

A friend in California told me today his parents barrowed his pick-up truck to go on a major prep run.
Maybe they freaked out a bit, maybe not?
He said they filled 4 shopping carts at the grocery store and that other people were looking funny at them for buying so much. They also hit Costco for another load.
It sound like to me that this is how panics start.
Better to be at the front of the line then be last!
Anyone else seeing this kind of activity on the west coast?
No. I did a SoCal Costco run on the 15th, and the sheep had carts full junk food and flat screens. Ther big news on that particular day was that there was no iodine to be found anywhere.

Yep, pure breed. He isn't AKC registered, but both parents were. We had no intention of breeding him so what is the point of paying to register? We thought it was dumb.

Andy? the words "man happen here" is not in my book..........a good example? read this one
When I was able to bring my brother, wife and two girls in from Cuba they didn't know how to use anything in the kitchen or the washer and dryer.........the first thing that I showed them was my stach of everything that I had in stock (most everthing) and believe or not all three ladies went running to where the Kotex and Tampec were at and from there to the bathroom.......in Cuba they were using rags that they used to wash and use them again and again.
One time in Cuba I went to an open market with one of my brothers and there was a guy selling a Cuba snack that cost only about a nickel (US), next to me there was this skinny dog so that I bought two of the snaks and gave it to him........when I looked up there were about ten people standing there looking at the dog and me and I didn't like the looks of it........sooooooooo.......I gave the seller a dollar bill and told him "Give everyone a couple of the snacks", and I then took off........I was glad to get the hell out of there because when I looked back there were about 20 people trying to get one of the free snacks.
Three times I saw the skin of cats with the head still attached to them laying next to the gutter on the streets.........even with the free food that Castro was giving out they needed more and more.
Get into your bed, cover yourself with a blanket, till everything is black, and you will see the future.....mother nature will also be showing her anger.

I've always wondered why Ponce uses ? question marks instead of commas (ex: ,)
and regarding this:One time in Cuba I went to an open market with one of my brothers and there was a guy selling a Cuba snack that cost only about a nickel (US), next to me there was this skinny dog so that I bought two of the snaks and gave it to him........when I looked up there were about ten people standing there looking at the dog and me and I didn't like the looks of it........sooooooooo.......I gave the seller a dollar bill and told him "Give everyone a couple of the snacks", and I then took off........I was glad to get the hell out of there because when I looked back there were about 20 people trying to get one of the free snacks.
I'm thinking people weren't sure whether to shake/squeeze the dog to make him spit out what he had just ate or whether to eat him for dinner...which was more probable.
Ponce, someone had asked you before if you were going to sell your tp, if you haven't seriously considered it, do it(and charge according to tp quality, such as Charmin=Best, fam dollar brand=poor but still great value, etc). You could make mucha plata, especially from dumbasses that don't know how to wipe properly like my cousin whom has to to wrap his entire hand like 6times w/tp just to wipe once :o
