Yes its hardly worth mentioning on the news anymore, big disasters are now minor and huge disasters are the norm.

Definitely not grooving on the new avatar, Ximmy. The cartoon chica motif was way more fun.

Now, on topic, "spill" means something along the lines of "oops" as in we fucked up and we know what we did wrong. Valdez was a good example of a spill. A mysterious slick is a bit more ominous. Either it is as Ximmy called it or someone spilled and didn't tell anyone except those guys who are quietly spraying on the coast.

Maybe the corexit wore off the previous mess?

It probably isn't an oil slick, more likely the only clean spot left in that part of the ocean.

BP will dispatch a tanker and correct the situation immediately
