i went down this morning to get yesterday's mail. there are two bright orange reflective decals on the side of my mailbox. wtf, i thought. started walking back up my driveway, and i noticed one tacked on to a tree right next to the road.

okay, now serious, wtf?

so i just spent about 45 minutes cruising around out here, and i did not see these on any other person's mailbox.

wtf?

no change in our mail delivery, we don't get the paper, etc. thought they might have been a marking for this. just **bam** i have these markers on my mailbox and tree now. i tore the tree one off, going to photograph the ones on the mailbox right now...

Boy they are sneaky! I haven't seen one here either... or a flying saucer.

Maybe its the local Jehovah's Witnesses. You might be targetted by them. Or it could be one of those end-of-the-world hunter clubs just pointing out who has foods & other goodies for the SHTF pillaging. Keep searching for answers.

Maybe kids being stupid? Sticking stickers on random things? Can you get a pic of it?

Tear them off and see if they are replaced?

I seem to remember something about red blue and yellow stickers on mailboxes being used for FEMA camp round ups.

Miac report? ???

Not trying to scare you just the first thing that comes to mind.

Be sure & check for RFID chips too!

Could just be a simple prank, or could be a code for "Guy doesn't get his mail until Sunday; Check here!"

A result of the financial collapse, a reduction in gubbermental infrastructure offerings in replace of streetlights.

Same cost though.

IINM, the mailbox represents federal property and depending on who placed the stickers they are likely guilty of vandalism.
Depending on how far into your property line the tree is, they are likely guilty of trespassing.

Just sayin'

Its only the inside space of the mailbox that is federal property.

Wisconsin gives you license plates to put on your mailbox. Don't be caught driving one down the freeway.

Maybe some do gooder put them there because they thought they were to close to the road and maybe a traffic hazard, so they put reflectors on them.

That's what we thought too. We were distributing some marketing material and the postal guy ran up on us, he wasn't very happy and read us the code as to affixing materials to federal domain yadda, yadda. They think very highly of those little flags.

We had an entire thread on this on GIM. There was a couple members that had these dots placed on their property. If I recall correctly, I think one of them caught the guy in the act, and confronted him. The guy stammered something about census or whatever.

Other GIMers said it was FEMA based.

I can't remember the final consensus, and I think GIM shut down before we could get to the bottom of it or something.

No one has yet thought it could be reflective signage improvements by the local highway or Federal mail services to improve safety and service to the people?

They will also do this if you ask them not to spray on your section of road meets private propery - or even on tree cuts - if you have talked to the crew/county

Found this:

The FD out here puts them on our mailboxes (wish they would quit it) to show which houses they hit up for $ already.

My newspaper box is mounted to the mailbox post, when I got the paper the newspaper box had a green and white reflective sticker and when I canceled my paper the driver place a red one over both stickers and also installed a red one on the box.

If they sent someone out to the address to install the stickers, that tells me that they have the address.

Does anybody think removing a one inch sticker is going to cause some boogy man/bad guy to not find your house?

If an address is in a data base somewhere, it will remain in the data base forever regardless of some plastic sticker that most times last 6 months to a year before they fall off

Have you checked with your local post office to see what they've got to say about it?

update:

called the post office, they have no idea who put them there. i don't get the newspaper, so nothing there either. fire department, etc. i don't know. we have a volunteer fire department, and nobody has been here trying to get fundraising or anything.

the county highway in front of my house is perfectly straight, so it's not road markers. also, nobody else's mailbox on the road has them.

one thing i thought about was that the ones on the mailbox face right, so anybody heading north would see it. the one on my tree was pointed left, so anybody heading south would see it. somebody has definitely marked my house for something. maybe it's something perfectly harmless, but i am paying attention now.
