ELYRIA, Ohio—
A 71-year-old Walmart greeter was choked and assaulted Saturday at a store in Elyria, after two women didn't get the customer service they wanted, Elyria police said.
As Toni Duncan, 49, and Ashley Jackson, 21, were leaving the store, the elderly Walmart greeter asked to see the receipt for their merchandise, police said.
Mary Curney was in the photo department of the store and witnessed the incident. "He was only trying to check her receipt and she got mad," Curney said.
"Ms. Duncan pushed a cart into the Walmart greeter then grabbed him by the throat," Elyria Police Sgt. Lee Frank said.
"And pushed him with his forearm and was cussing at him yelling at him threatening him," Curney said.
Police said Duncan was also yelling racial slurs at the greeter.
Another employee intervened in the attack on the greeter, police said. That is when Jackson reportedly ran over to a customer service employee -- that was not able to help them earlier -- and told the female employee she was going to punch her in the face. Police said Jackson then told her boyfriend about the door greeter, he "won't be alive."
"[The door greeter] just was stunned. He didn't really know what to do. He was like shaken up and everything," Curney said.
Police said Jackson yelled, "I'm going to blow up Walmart," three times before the women left.
"It's very kind of rare that it gets physical, and get physical with an older gentleman, who's just there at Walmart, basically doing his job," Sgt. Frank said.
Police said when officers arrived, the women were still in the parking lot with two small children in the car. Duncan admitted to choking the elderly greeter, and wanted to press charges against the Walmart employees.
Duncan was arrested and charged with assault, and Jackson for menacing and inducing panic.
Both women were released and are scheduled to make their first court appearance Wednesday.
Jackson told Fox 8 News on the phone that she and Duncan had no comment.
