View Full Version : Father Beheads Daughter's Rapist: Hero or Monster?

The question about the "rightness" of vigilante revenge definitely comes up after a father, an ex-South Africa rugby star, went on what looks to be a revenge killing spree, using an axe to murder three men he believes gang raped his daughter and gave her HIV. One of the victims' heads was found a mile away from his body. One of the two other men, also killed by axe, was nearly decapitated as well.

For anyone who has a daughter or a child, it seems a rightly served form of justice on men who would commit a heinous and violent crime against a young girl, especially leaving her to fight a deadly virus for life; however, this string of violence at the hands of a rage-filled father also reminds us to consider that taking the law into our own hands might not always work out how it should.

First of all, there is the matter of the gang rape, which is still alleged. It doesn't sound like anyone was picked up, arrested, or charged for the crime. Not suggesting the rape didn't happen. Not at all. If it was my kid who was raped, I'd have no problem taking her word for it. I could see many, many people immediately going after the rapists named by their own daughter.

But what if this father killed the wrong guys? What if, in an impassioned and murderous rampage, he hacked up someone he thought to be one of the rapists, and what if he was wrong? Then the story isn't so heroic anymore, is it? That's the purpose the courts and DNA tests and finger pointing in a courtroom serve. Everything else aside, you want to get the right guys. However, this is what we don't know when a person goes after people without the law behind him.

The father is due in court tomorrow, where he will face three charges of murder and one of attempted murder for a fourth alleged victim who escaped. He is accused of stalking his victims over several days before hacking them to death with an axe.

If he knew for sure who did it, power to him.

I would expect in a case like this that he was operating on more than blind rage. If it is shown he got the wrong guys, he has committed murder and should face that penalty. Otherwise, I say he did the world a favor by removing the death-dealing scum that ruined his (and daughter's) life. I would probably do a similar thing in such circumstances.... only perhaps not as kindly.

Apparently the father isn't even a father.

'Father' Avenging Daughter's Rape Is Murderous Liar

Well, the case of Joseph Ntshongwana, the vengeful father and ex-South Africa rugby player who beheaded one of his daughter's rapists and killed two others with an axe, takes a bit of a horrifying turn today. According to The Australian, the rape of his daughter didn't happen -- and, well, he doesn't even appear to have a daughter. That's right. This triple murder was no revenge and he is no father.

Oh, this is awful. Is this someone's idea of a sick April Fools' Joke? Doesn't look like it. We all got duped into rising to the defense of a man (or at least relating to where we thought he was coming from) who now looks to be a murderous psychopath who knew just what to say to make his violent crimes seem justified.

Wow, getting news from South Africa is apparently harder than that crazy kids' game of Telephone. The story sure got really wacky on its way across the ocean.

After Ntshongwana's court appearance and an outpouring of public sympathy for his plight, police announced that no rape was being investigated as a result of Ntshongwana's crimes -- that they can't even confirm the man has a daughter. Vincent Mdunge, a police spokesman, said:

We have ruled out completely the element of rape. There has not been any element of rape that is attached to him. He therefore has been killing people out of evil nature.

My God. What happened to this young former rugby star? What made him snap? This is a brutal and horrifying story, and unfortunately, one that struck a chord and some passionate conversation with many of our readers.

Do you feel duped by this man's lies?

The guy definitely looks like a brain surgeon

I retract my statement about him being a hero if the article is a giant lie. Who knows the truth...
