Futures Plunge On New 7.4 Magnitude Earthquake, Tsunami Alert
ES just took a big leg lower. It is unclear if this is due to breaking news of a new 7.4 earthquake hitting Tokyo and a subsequent Tsunami alert. Then again, there may be no reason whatsoever: this is a self-aware SkyNet after all. Follow the latest developments on NHK here.

If the same thing were to happen in the US I would say that we are toast but the Japanese people are resiliant and will make a come back, as proven after WWII, to be once again what they were......the only thing that might hold them back is the radiation.........and also the state of the economy in the world.

i am beginning to think that water is not the best coolant, because it becomes irradiated and seems to end up needing to be disposed of, e.g. in the ocean.
i would use a coolant that contains boron particles - boron absorbs neutrons - and i would experiment with dropping copper or aluminum granules on the parts that are hot enough to melt copper or aluminum, then installing steel tubes containing the coolant slurry in the heart of the reactor, and also embedded in the aluminum.
i would love to see more detailed pictures of the reactor. my job was designing heatsinks for about 24 years, i find the challenges at Fukushima to be fascinating. but i wouldn't set foot in the f'ing reactor.
have they deployed f'ing robots yet ? i heard that iRobot, makers of Roomba, might be providing some.
CAD drawings of the Fukushima plant would be helpful, but i suppose you could say that the various explosions, along with the tidal wave, modified the power plant.

I would guess a transformer at a power sub station.
