Upon checking the route to a location I'm going to the first result Google maps suggests involves using a toll road. I check two alternate routes, both of which saved a couple of minutes (by Google maps' est.) and were shorter by a mile or two, yet the first suggestion involved a toll road.

I'm sure their route selection isn't solely dependent upon time. It also probably has to do with the complexity of the directions. There must have been a reason to put a toll road where it is, otherwise, why build one?

don't be surprised (in the near future) if it leads you to check points too

Did the toll road route have the least number of turns? I think they load that route first.

I noticed that yesterday.

In Google's defense (ugh), at least they note the fact that the toll roads are there, and require a toll.

If they REALLY wanted to help the toll companies they wouldn't mention that, and people would be surprised to find toll roads when using Google-provided directions.

Never use Google maps. I worked a delivery job and Google maps couldn't get the location of my work right, it said that it was a couple miles from where it was actually located. It did the same on a delivery too. I guess you can use it but only if you prefer estimated directions.

Google began modifying their search results to appease advertisers as far back as 2002.

i'm not at all surprised if they also skew their info to accomplish other goals.

I farted, but I got to my location without any radiation leakage of any significant amount that would cause any concern to persons living in North America. I just farted again. Please wipe this message - Ponce?
