Damn possible Government shutdowns interfere with my vacation time!
For Obama, a Mini-Vacation Is in Limbo (http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/04/07/for-obama-a-mini-vacation-is-in-limbo/)
President Obama has some real motivation for getting a budget deal: his family vacation.
The White House confirmed on Thursday that Mr. Obama and his family are scheduled to depart for a weekend trip to Williamsburg, Va., on Friday, a getaway that will be scrapped if there is a government shutdown.
“The first family has a long-planned family trip to Colonial Williamsburg this weekend,” said Josh Earnest, the deputy White House press secretary. “The president’s priority is working with members of Congress from both parties to avoid a government shutdown, but obviously the family’s plans will change if an agreement is not reached.”
Mr. Obama has had terrible luck when it comes to work interfering with play.
The family’s Hawaiian vacation in 2009 was interrupted by the Christmas Day attempt to bomb a plane. Their attempt to relax in Martha’s Vineyard in August of that year was cut short by the death of Senator Edward M. Kennedy. His visit to Indonesia, where he spent several years as a child, was delayed by the final votes on the health care bill.
If the shutdown occurs, Mr. Obama will stay in Washington to help deal with the ramifications. There is no word as to whether Michelle Obama, the first lady, and their children would go on the vacation without him.
The trip to Williamsburg would not be the first time Mr. Obama has sought to vacation in popular American tourist destinations. In 2010, Mr. Obama spent several days on a family vacation in Yellowstone National Park and the Grand Canyon.
I just feel so bad for the guy. :oo-->
Has this guy spent more time away from D.C. than actually in D.C.?
