Pech River Valley in eastern Afghanistan, once considered by the Americans as being central to their strategy, is now under the control of the Taliban.

The US troops pulled out after years of fighting for control of the area - a Taliban stronghold - that had led to mounting casualties.

Al Jazeera's Hashem Ahelbarra has this exclusive report on the Taliban patrol unit that has taken over this strategic base.

I once asked my history professor if he thought US involvement in Vietnam could've just been a ploy to drain the US of resources. He was visibly agitated and stated nobody could've been that smart. Anyways, schools for fools.

We were chatting one day and I mentioned the place I'd grown up. He then mentioned a phrase that only a local would've known, except he left me with a "try hard" impression, like he had a list of phrases that would make him seem like a local if needed. Later when I pissed him off with my "Vietnam was to drain us of resources" comment I concluded he likely use to work for one of the alphabet boys. Universities are filled with those types.
