That was a continuous flight, which would assume it was over continental US. The wing that was being viewed was the right wing, facing south. What's with the Northern lights in the southern sky?

Per the comments @ the daily mail, they flew north over the Arctic.

They fly great circle routes on long flights. So, the plane will fly over northern Canada and then over Greenland to get from San Francisco to Paris. The right wing doesn't always face south on this flight. It faces east southeast at times. You can see the aurora borealis in the far northern latitudes about where it should be in relation to the plane and it's orientation. If you are way up north, close to the pole, you can see the aurora in many parts of the sky.

Thanks guys.

I have seen southern lights, but only on one occasion. Mid winter, northern Ontario. Very stunning. I remember quite vividly. Rather than that green colour, they were red and all of the lines converged into an apex, like a triangle. No eye at the top though, lol.
