Toronto police have arrested five people allegedly involved in the fraudulent purchase of 75 distinctive gold bars worth an estimated $1.9 million.

The arrests came after heavily armed police officers raided a home in the upscale neighbourhood of Rosedale on Thursday morning.

Three men and one woman were arrested after the raid at 126 Mount Pleasant Rd.

Det. Cameron Field said Friday the five a total of 14 charges between them, including:

- Fraud over $5,000.

- Conspiracy to commit an indictable offence.

- Possession of property obtained by the proceeds of crime.

The bars were bought in Montreal sometime between Feb. 9 and 11.

A "fraudulently obtained" bank draft for $1,895,751 was used to purchase the bars, police said at the time.

Too bad they did not buy silver. They could have paid the 1.9 million back and still had near a million profit. ;D
