Valpo sixth-grader handcuffed over spilled milk
VALPARAISO — A 12-year-old faces two counts of resisting law enforcement for his alleged actions when he refused to clean up spilled milk in the Ben Franklin Middle School cafeteria.
A police officer was helping supervise the lunch period on Tuesday, because both the principal and assistant principal were in a meeting, and the boy got into a confrontation with a school staff member.
After refusing to wipe up the mess, according to the police report, the sixth-grader refused to sit and wait for the other students to return to class so the staff member could deal with him individually.
He then allegedly ran away — through hallways and the kitchen — when the police officer attempted to escort him to the principal’s office.
Once caught, he fought and kicked the officer in attempts to get away and eventually was put in handcuffs.
The student was released to a parent.

Good.
Sounds like the little snot needs a little guidance.
Twenty lashes might get him to clean up when he makes a mess next time.

What was a cop doing there anyway? When I was in high school, and I'm talking 6 or 7 years ago, there were no cops. I went to a large city public school, where whites were a definite minority. Fights ALWAYS broke out, some times you HAD to fight. One would get into a fist fight, and get a 3 to 10 day vacation from school then come back like nothing happened.
Now some kid in elementary or middle school writes on a desk with a marker or spills milk and it's a case of the law and the state.
Once when smoking cigs in the bathroom, some kid said that he was gonna fuck someone up in the lunch room. So we followed him over there. He promptly got there, grabbed a chair, and hit the poor bastard over the head with it while he was sitting there eating lunch. He was suspended, but no police or anything.
Talk about two extremes. Or maybe not, since both cases (the article and my experience) seem like they were in prison.

If someone can tell me the fundamental difference between public schools and prisons I'd be happy to listen.
I get the part about leaving at the end of the day, but I wouldn't be all :o if that little thing was changed soon.

He did the right thing by kicking the pig. He didn't belong there anyways.

I can't rally behind this kid, he is most likely a spoiled little brat whose parents have taught him he is Not Responsible for his actions, at home Mom probably would have gave him a reward of some sort and cleaned it up for him.
I don't know why the cop was there but he had 2 choices, let the kid go and reaffirm his belief that he is Not Responsible for his actions or restrain him and make him stand accountable.
The kid will probably be stealing my car in a couple years and running from the cops which will sadly result in an innocent bystander being killed all because nobody taught him right from wrong.

I normally respect your posts, but this is BS. I will never understand why so many people give criminals the benefit of the doubt. Cops are confirmed criminals, they do not deserve the benefit of the doubt. Also, how do you expect kids to react to spending their childhoods couped up in prison disguised as school? Cameras everywhere, cops everywhere, authoritarian 'educators' everywhere...what is the appropriate response to this? For us, the 'smart' ones, an appropriate response is to fight, rebel, resist. But for kids, just bend over and take it. F that. GOOD for them if they don't do what the criminals tell them to do.
