Goog own youtube, but they are not offering migration there, and youtube seems to carry mostly shorter clips... don't know what the rules are there re clip length because I occasionally see long clips hosted at youtube but it's more rare. Goog seems to have all the longer documentary type videos, which it looks like they're fixing to delete soon. That'll make many videos reposted to BBS's and blogs etc all across the world for years now, go kaput overnight.

Doesn't seem right, pulling the plug like that, when they could just rebrand to youtube completely and keep all the reposted google video content URLs working fine... :conf:

Seems Google sparked a bit of spirited debate when it decided to pull the plug on Google Video, because the company's put that plan on indefinite hold, telling users that it's looking for "an easier way" to migrate its massive archives of video to YouTube. Originally, Google gave users an ultimatum to download videos (or just tap a simple "Upload Videos to YouTube" button) before it erased them for good, but now Mountain View plans to automatically transfer content to YouTube itself. Why wasn't that the plan from day one? We'd guess that hosting terabytes of streaming video isn't cheap, folks.
