BURLINGTON, Mass. (CBS/WBZ) - State Police have located a man who witnesses at the Burlington Mall thought was carrying a rifle; and confirmed the item was actually an umbrella.

The man, who is a worker at nearby Leahy Clinic contacted police after realizing he fit the description of the news reports. Officers were able to use surveillance video and witnesses to confirm that man was the person they had been looking for.

SWAT team members responded to the Burlington Mall for what turned out to be false reports of a gunman inside, reports CBS station WBZ.

The initial report came in Tuesday around 10 a.m., from two women inside Nordstrom.

According to State Police, the witnesses reported seeing a short white man wearing a gray sweatshirt, black pants, and a black backpack, carrying what at the time, was thought to be a rifle.

Federal, State, and local police all responded and evacuated the mall.

Workers inside several stores inside the mall told WBZ-TV they had closed their store security gate around 10 a.m. and hid out until police gave the all clear.

Unfortunate mistake: The 'rifle' turned out to be an umbrella, carried in a sling-like case in the man's backpack

False flags all of them, I can't imagine the poor guys fate if he was still at the mall.... this shyt is getting tricky. I am almost tempted to NOT carry where I go due to the militia.. I mean police/swat stranglehold. Remember, the help only will come after the threats are gone.

Doesn't look anything like a rifle, could be confused for a katana maybe.

Well at least all the roided up swat guys got to gear up and strut around for awhile.

Wouldn't want to live there. In some states you can carry your rifle with you.

Whats really amazing is the LEO response for a state that has such stringent gun and weapon rights. Whens the last time you ordered Ammo online and it said couldn't ship anything to MA?

Pretty top heavy if you ask me. Then again I'm sure the property tax in eastern Mass would make your eyes peel.

That state has come a long way from coming out from all ends to fight off tyranny not but a couple hundred years ago yesterday, to being a total, literal, police state.

1775- Government officials say "you've got too many guns, were taking em". Colonist say "no" with the crack of muskets and the slinging of lead for near two whole days

2011- Government officials here a man MIGHT possibly have a rifle. Citizens run in fear and beg the protection of the para military force.

When people are afraid of umbrellas, how easy it is to control them with promises of safety and peace!

We will post a peace office in your house to keep you safe. He will make sure you eat the right foods, buy the right things, work enough hours and pay your patriotic taxes.

Watch for a new law to come about requiring umbrella companies to paint the handle or tip bright orange.

This thing has a classic katana handle, the people have been pussified to the point of not being able to tell the difference between a sword and a rifle...

Our heroes saved "the children" from another evil AU(Assault Umbrella) carrier this week.
Praise them.

A typical Tuesday morning for 42-year-old Michael Di Marzo quickly became a citywide multi-jurisdictional manhunt for him and what witnesses thought was a assault rifle in his hand.
Three schools were locked down and delayed as police scoured the area by ground and air, looking for a man described by a teenage tipster as wearing black clothes and a ski mask.

It wasn’t realized until hours later what was believed to be something along the lines of an AR-15 or AK-47 was more of a AU-15: a 15-inch compact “assault umbrella.”

The “ski mask” was a pulled-up black turtle neck sweater paired with a black watch cap.
