I've been studying my family history for years, and I figure that some here, being of like mind, have done the same.

Well, what say you, GSUS?

I tried it but I couldn't find any reference to my paternal side before 1625.

Mothers side goes back to medieval England.

Have you used any on line genealogy websites?

We've done ours. We can go back very far on my fathers side, my moms side not so much. Its pretty neat to be able to look back at family history.

My sister spends hours upon hours every week tracing relatives, she has hard drives full of information.

My Great Great Grandparents on my Dads side are buried not more then 5 minutes away from where I live, lots of relatives still live around here and I'm always running into one of them and catching up.

Maternal side : back to ~1727, family has been in the USA since then.

Paternal side: nothing farther back than 1910's when Grandpa entered as teenager.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone here have family that came over on the Mayflower?

We've traced well beyond that, but I thought I'd keep the list short. We were the Hopkins. Odd's are, if you can trace your family to that group, were related. ;)

I really enjoy tracing back my lineage. There is an extensive list on my dads side (we had been in norfolk, virginia for a few centuries where most of my family still resides), not so much my moms side

my favorite fact that i've uncovered through quick sleuthing is that there are only a couple hundred people in the world left with my last name

out of curiosity, has anyone used any of those online genealogical sites like ancestry? any good, worth it?!?

My grandmother had a family tree book where it was traced to three generations before the "Juan Ponce de Leon", back to the 1300 something..........at one time the name was just plain "Ponce".......one "leyend" is that two brothers saved the life of this Duke who was from the city of "Leon" so that he bestowed the name of his city to the two brothers who then became "Ponce de Leon"........another "legend" , and probably the real one, is that one of the "Ponce's" married into the family of the "Leon" so that he became "Ponce de Leon".

Now that my dad died last year I am now the holder of a royal tittle.........

I think you're thinking of Article 1 of the Constitution that says that congress nor the states can give title of nobility. Mean the governor of Ponces state couldnt give him the title "Duke Ponce".

However, there is nothing that says a the prince of england cannot become a US Citizen

Heim? all that the Duke gave them was the name of his city and not a tittle, the tittle came much later......
