An off-duty Atlanta police officer got into a scuffle with a woman and punched her in the face, and the early morning incident at an IHOP was captured on video, the Atlanta Police Department confirmed.
It was not clear what started the struggle around 4 a.m. Sunday, but the incident started as a conflict between the officer, working a second job at the Buckhead restaurant, and another woman with the one who was hit.
According to several videos posted on YouTube.com, the officer, whose name was not known, shouted at a woman sitting in the corner of a booth near the door and then he lunged at her. A woman wearing a black dress appeared to be trying to separate the officer and her friend when the officer slapped her. The woman in the black dress hit him back and he responded with a punch to her face.
A second officer came up just as the struggle began. He got involved when it became physical between the first cop and the woman in the black dress and appeared to be trying to separate the two. The first officer pulled the woman in a black dress away from the table, threw her onto the floor and laid on top of her while trying to get handcuffs on one wrist. The second wrist was cuffed when she turned over on her stomach.
Within moments, a female officer appeared to hold back the crowd while the woman in the black dress, shoeless, was led out of the restaurant.
“The Atlanta Police Department is aware of the incident that took place early Sunday morning involving one of its officers attempting to arrest a patron at an IHOP in Buckhead," APD said in a statement emailed to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution late Tuesday. "The matter has been referred to our Office of Professional Standards to determine whether department policies and procedures were followed. Further comment at this time would not be appropriate.”
Roberte Caban, a friend of the woman who scuffled with the officer, said the officer went overboard.
"I felt so bad for her, for anybody to go through that," Caban told Channel 2 Action News. "It was very obvious that the first officer had contained her.
"No one would tell us why we were arrested, no one would tell us anything," she added. "And we wind up spending over 24 hours in jail."

Good. Loud obnoxious drunk women at IHOP should shut the hell up when told to by a police officer in uniform.
:whistle if it were an obnoxious drunk guy it would not be all over the news

Anybody remember when decent people could still dine out in peace in America?

it's my mantra to avoid cops if at all possible, in my opinion, MOST cops like to hurt people
I couldn't punch a girl like that, at least not for slapping me on the arm or shoulders while I was wearing a big thick jacket....

unless there was something that happened early, the cop attacked the woman in the black dress.
she had the right to defend herself - it is not her "right" to sit there and be punched by some schmoe in a uniform - for no reason that has to do with keeping the peace.
the right thing to do here is - that cop goes on trial for police brutality - and the woman's friends & family get to sit on the jury.
the settlement might bankrupt the town - and the out-of-control cops might learn something.
anybody get the cop's name ?

Jeez...damn Springer show. LOL at the title "breakfast brutality".
The first slap, though looking bad was a diversion tactic, meant to catch her off guard so the cops could possibly use control techniques, pain compliance, etc that "look" a lot better to the public. But, she fights back instantly....so, the cop loads up and just nails her? Man, that's all bad, talk about the wrong thing to do in every possible way...
Worst damn job on the planet. More ways to completely fuck up and do the wrong thing, it's almost funny.

The cop MUST have been a Jew or a CRYPTO-BLACK!!! The blacks and crypto blacks are ESPECIALLY predisposed to this type of behavior, it is in the genes!

This is GSUS, GIM is on the other side of the pond.
Don't mind Book, he has a passive aggressive nature, that tends to draw a man out. However, you will never be able to face him eye to eye, he dodges things. If you like getting punched in the back of the head...honor Book.

It's a damn shame when the only ones willing to stand up to the police are drunk women.
