I saw this during my browsing on amazon.com

They are super cheap, especially considering you are also getting a flint stick with it!

7 inch, full tang, cord wrapped, olive gree nylon sheath, only $7.85!
I didn't buy any becuase I have a ton of knives and multiple flint strikes, but I was tempted!

I don't have any real good knives and only one flint strike, so I think I'll pick me up a few of these, thanks for the heads up!

If you buy a few of these, you STILL won't have any real good knives. You get what you pay for - and I've bought several "cheap-o" knives similar to those that ended up in a drawer or broken/chipped. Better plan would be buy one or two GOOD high quality (Ka-Bar, Cold Steel, Benchmade, Kershaw, Spiderco, SOG, etc.) knives then add the flint strikes as a separate item...

You only buy quality once, but you buy cheap OVER and OVER again! 8)

I agree with you to a point, Gaillo. But I have to say that I run cheap knives all the time in the bush. My belt carry is a United Cutlery UC1110, which is no longer in production, but there are a lot available on the web for prices ranging from $12 to $45, depending on the site. It is a cheapy, made probably in China, but I have worked that blade hard. I hack with it, pry with it, use it to cut sticks for setting traps, then I sharpen it and I have used it to cut the rectum out of a black bear.

Let's not forget that a knife is just a sharpened piece of metal. Yes, there are different grades of metal which makes all the difference, but cheap knives are typically made out of Stainless so they won't rust, and the tempering is typically good enough to maintain strength, but allow for sharpening/straitening. However, oftentimes you are paying for the name.

I personally wouldn't hesitate to buy 5 of these if I was in the market, especially for that price.

If you're looking for a GOOD knife, that is also cheap, these are the best that I found

I recently bought two "clipper" style knives, one in Carbon Steel (paid $8.99) and one in stainless for my tacklebox (paid $13.99) from Smokey Mountain Knife Works

Here is a review of some mora's

Usually cheap = junk. In the case of the mora's though that just doesn't hold true. Granted you won't be able to pry anything with it, you won't be able to throw it and it survive long, you can't batton it through a peice of wood, but if you want to cut something its great. Buy a mora and get a firesteel seperately from somewhere cheap like meritline

$4 with free shipping.

I got one during a sale ($2 free shipping) and it works just as well as my "Light my fire" $15 firesteel.

although not a survival knife, I'm pleased with this Kershaw "needs work", I've had it for a while now and it's done great, from cutting drywall the other day to wood carving......I especially like the "one-handed" operation of it, also the shape of the handle and the short thick blade...

at $8, i'd rather buy this " full tang " cheapo than one of those hollow handle Rambo knives

Yeah, I agree. You could beat the shit out of that $8 knives, and keep sharpening/flattening it till it died, then just grab another one without being upset about it. I haven't ordered any yeat, but when I do I will probably order about 7 or 10 of them.

a knife like this would be great in 6-8 temporary guerrilla caches scattered around your AO

I would probably just end up using the saw blade on my gerber suspension multi tool. The newer magnesium fire starters come with a a thin saw tooth blade attached to the chain.
