Im no geologist, but Japan is getting screwed.
Lightening isnt that uncommon in volcanic eruptions. After all, you are dealing with high heat, lots of friction and static charges. But yeah, usualy when you look at a volcano and see lightning coming out of it, its probably not going to end well.

Snap crackle and pop.
On the video in the upper left, I expect what I am seeing at the bottom are plasma balls (of telluric current) travelling along electrical wires.

St. Elmo's fire (also St. Elmo's light) is an electrical weather phenomenon in which luminous plasma is created by a coronal discharge originating from a grounded object in an atmospheric electric field (such as those generated by [associated with] thunderstorms created by a volcanic explosion).
St. Elmo's fire is named after St. Erasmus of Formiae (also called St. Elmo, the Italian name for St. Erasmus), the patron saint of sailors. The phenomenon sometimes appeared on ships at sea during thunderstorms and was regarded by sailors with religious awe for its glowing ball of light, accounting for the name.[

During the New Kingdom, some private underground tombs were marked on the surface by small brick pyramids that terminated in a pyramidion. The 4-lateral sides included texts, and scenes related to the cult of the Sun God (as the Representation of Pharaoh).

I thought they were headlights of cars driving by.

Yes, headlights I now agree.
___________
Reminded me of the ground discharge beside the volcano. Some orbs as well near the start and after two minutes.

Lightning strikes from Tuesday night's storms are being blamed for a rare light show that left thousands of people in Fort Worth without power.
When the storms rolled in, lightning apparently blew a substation east of downtown.
Next, transformers began to blow, sending an eerie cascade of blue and auburn light lasting several minutes into the night sky.
The light show was recorded from a high rise in downtown and uploaded to YouTube by Brian Luenser.
Jaime Molina with Oncor said about 4000 customers in the area were impacted by the power loss. Molina didn't know the number of transformers affected, but said power to most customers should have been restored very quickly as they switched to another substation automatically.
