yes, i'm quite familiar with the personality type. although i eventually learned that the US gov. is not worthy of the silver platter a lot of the Anandtech schmoes put it on, i'm still a geek. so i started out like many of the people on Anandtech, though with a strong dislike of human beings who are deliberately cruel to other human beings.

it's a sewer. if i'm going to go into a sewer, i'd rather go into a real sewer, at least there's a sludge that has fertilizer value.

basically, the Geek personae is the bratty kid who got all the A's in physics, math, chemistry, etc., who you might have been nice to if you needed help with your homework.

that personality type is uncomfortable with uncertainty - they like having all the answers. they would rather believe a delusion with certainty, than live with the reality of a paradox.

also, there is the detail that, in math physics chemistry & computers, you can have answers with absolute certainty, or within degrees of precision. but, the way American education is, what they learn in history is sh.t. but they don't know that, they think the exactness that they learned in the tech. classes carries over to history.

also, they have learned to mimick the "cool kids" who make fun of those who present new information, e.g. competing to make up new versions of the term conspiracy theory, such as calling someone a batshit-crazy tinfoil-hatter. in other words it is comparable to a high-school clique, except many of the forum members are 10 years older.

of course, many non-geeks are the same way. when you tell them about the real history of their country, many Americans feel like they are being personally assaulted - and have a similar emotional reaction.

the computer part of the website is very useful, it can save your ass on a lot of computer things.

the Politics & News forum is like a shark tank.

but it is also a high-traffic website, so information presented there will get read.

i think part of the strategy/ tactics is -
* to keep an eye on the taxi meter. e.g. limiting your time to 5 minutes, at some time when you're just relaxing anyway.
* to keep an eye on the blood pressure. to let none of the Zio-trolls get under your skin. if you feel a real need to respond to somebody, to step away from it.

This is exactly what one should do. There is an esoteric law that says that one's teacher can only be just one level above him. Likewise, in order to progress, you must put someone in your place. These laws apply not to teaching knowledge, but rather increasing being and also gnosis. It somewhat applies to "waking up", because doing so is not simply just an academic exercise. The whole red pill/blue pill thing is not academic.
