A little more recent news. The article you posted was from 10-1-2010
Ashcroft named to Xe Services chairmanship (http://www.upi.com/Business_News/2011/05/04/Ashcroft-named-to-Xe-Services-chairmanship/UPI-31271304535702/)
WASHINGTON, May 4 (UPI) -- Former U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft was named as an independent director of Xe Services, the security services firm's parent company announced Wednesday.
"We are ecstatic and honored to have Attorney General Ashcroft join the USTC team," officials of USTC Holdings, the consortium that acquired Xe Services, said in a release. "His relevant experience, unparalleled reputation for integrity and personal commitment to ethics, transparency, and excellence make him a valuable addition to the company."
USTC is a leading provider of training and security services that support the U.S. government and other customers. When it acquired Xe last year, USTC Holdings indicated it would form a new board of directors to deepen the company's governance and oversight capabilities.
Ashcroft will lead the company's Subcommittee on Governance, a newly formed entity within Xe's board, USTC said. The subcommittee's focus will be on the company's efforts to maximize governance, compliance and accountability, while building and promoting ethics and professionalism within the private security industry.
"I'm delighted to be involved in USTC's next phase of ownership and growth, particularly in helping to oversee its commitment to professionalism, compliance and accountability within the security industry," Ashcroft said in a statement. "This is a company with a strong history of service to its country, and a reputation of best-in-class offerings to its public and private customers."

"According to a different statement from the Department of State, the new Worldwide Protective Services contract comes with new safeguards to prevent abuse. Those include mandatory cultural awareness training, the addition of interpreters on all protection missions, financial penalties for poor performance."
Quote from the article. It's all OK folks, they are going to attend cultural awareness training, plus financial penalties. We are all safe now. ::)

What's the big deal...“Blackwater” are merely private international security cops who have the difficult job of preventing crime before it happens to make us and the world a safer place by upholding corporate policy working hand in hand with HLS, CIA, TSA and the many many State and local police forces everywhere.
Oh sure, you can call them evil paramilitary mercenaries, privateers or assassins, but that's just semantics and hyperbole.
They're quietly helping corporate USA keep itself safe behind the scenes economically in the dark.

But because that so-called “task order” is specifically for on-site security around the gates of the Baghdad embassy, it’s not clear if SOC will also provide the 6,000 to 7,000 security guards the State Department estimates it needs to protect diplomats on the move around Iraq or its other outposts around the country. Last year, the Iraqi government barred Blackwater from doing business in Iraq in response to Nisour Square. But it’s not clear whether this new “joint venture” is eligible to operate in Iraq
State Dept needs 7000 mercs just to move around Iraq. :o

Now all they need is legislation to exempt them from prosecution for murder. Then they will be exactly what was intended in their business model--Murder Incorporated.
Didn't they get a contract to train local police forces in proper techniques of killing civilians?
