Surfing job to job, and couch to couch
Natalia Lusinski
Los Angeles, Calif.
I moved to Los Angeles when I was 21 to pursue a career in screenwriting. Now, I'm 34 years old and still barely getting by.
I'm a television writers' assistant, and I've worked on some great shows like Desperate Housewives -- but since I'm on a freelance basis, my income is far from steady.
I've taken side jobs waitressing, writing dating ads, and even pet-sitting. Since I'm not making enough money to pay rent, I gave up my apartment and decided to couch-surf with a different friend each week for 52 weeks.
It's been more than a year now, and I'm still basically, homeless. To make matters worse, I have $99,000 in student loans to pay off (don't go to two private schools in a row!).
The good news is, even though I still barely have an income, I am extremely happy and have started to write a book about the whole experience. I'm calling it 52 Weeks, 52 Couches: How I Slept my Way Through Hollywood (Without Sleeping with Anybody) and I hope to sell it soon. In the meantime, I'll continue surfing from job to job, and couch to couch.

From one career of zero real-value productivity to another career of zero real-value productivity.
Sounds like a plan. Good luck with that.

that $100k in student loans is a killer. All that money spent and she can get a decent job with that? Any man that marries her will inherit that debt.

Indeed. Easy solution, don't get married! But gold and silver instead. ;D She'll still be around to share a couch if needed...no point in buying the milk when the cow is free.
Thanks, feminism!!

Thanks Osoab. ;) I mix words and all sorts or things up, spell things wrong. I'm glad I can work with my hands. I'm sure I'd be diagnosed dyslexic if those that diagnose folks could get their hands on me..
Sorry folks, and I appreciate your patience with me.

Remember back during the OJ trial when everyone made fun of the Kato Kaelin guy? Now that behavior is seen as reasonable.

It would appear that 99K can't buy you any kind of a useful skill at a "normal" school. She could have went to a tech school for probably less than a third of that and actually learned a skill useful to society. Oh well.

my youngest cousin is 17. almost all of her age group are like this. they are all going to be:
a) a tv reality star
b) a sports star
c) flip "something" (houses or something. they are all confused as to what "it" is)
d) a rock star
e) do "something in hollywood"
f) be a famous writer
i meet maybe one in 100 of them who want to be a doctor, dentist, electrician, metal fabricator, etc. when i ask them if don't they think they should learna trade, they all kind of respond that "you don't need to anymore."
edit: i forgot blogger. people are going to pay them $100,000 a year to write blog posts about what they thought of the latest twilight movie.

This gives me an idea po'boy's trade school payable in silver or gold ;D. I could teach in 8 weeks what on the job training took 2 years to learn and sell the product at below market price!

;D I think she just means she was not in a relationship at that time. Remember, with some delusional women, one night stands do not count as "sleeping with anyone". Nor does oral sex, or friends with benefits, couch buddies, etc. The only thing that counts as sex..is when those gals are in a relationship with someone they love. That counts, not the drunk quickie that happened on a girl's night out. ;)
