(This would have been appropriate to several different threads/subs, so I decided to post it here for now)

Here's one local business that hasn't had a cash flow problem!

I think one of the best things about this is Greg Koch's decision to by farmland (18+ acres) for an organic farm to supply their restaurants. They had already invested over $2M in a solar array for the Escondido facility, which supplied a majority of the power.

Bocce courts? LOL... I had to look that up...

Also impressive:

Employees: 379

Current openings: 42

New jobs to be added: 250 :o

Wow ... Cosmic, man !

about 15 years ago, i was living in San Diego & ordered some hops to try growing in San Diego. spent about $180 on hops, and all i had to show for my efforts was ...
A/ some very very VERY fat grasshoppers. couldn't even fly once they got done feasting.
B/ a tour of Stone in the early days.

Now, just 2 days ago, i got a shipment of 5 hops rhyzomes in the mail from the same place i ordered from 15 years ago !

their mailing system mis-fired and i got an order that was going to some guy in Pennsylvania.

like i said, COSMIC.

Good on them. Stone makes good beer.

Lots of craft breweries are on the same page.

during hard times, people want stuff to take their minds off their real problems. alcohol is one of them.

26 million dollar expansion creating 250 new jobs

That is the difference between a Gov run program and private business

If the place was run by the Gov it would have cost 256 million and created 25 jobs of which 20 would have been administrative

Excellent beer drinkin' game!!

Yep, folks always drink in good times and bad, in good times they buy the premium stuff in bad times they buy the cheap stuff.

Good to see my investments paying off. Now if they would just make Arrogant Bastard six packs.

I planted some Mt Hood and Cascade hop rhizomes a month ago. They should be coming up any day now. I hope the snow earlier in the week diidn't eff them up.

Did you go get some stamps to ship the package, or rope for the hops to climb? ;D

i wanted to stay on good terms with the hops grower that made the mistake, so i made it a point to email him before he figured it out & emailed me.

but haven't heard back from him yet.

i had already ordered 1 of each -
Cascade
Nugget
Fuggle
Chinook
Willamette (i think).

in this package, he sent me one more of each, along with the paperwork for the mixed up order.

in other words, rope. ;D

If you read the article, you would realize it's more than just the beer they are capitalizing on. Organic farming? Bocce fer chrissakes?

With all due respect, your post just seems to be a regurgitated cliche'...

Go visit Stone Brewing one day, say a Thursday afternoon at 6 o'clock, at then tell me how many people are there just to drown their sorrows.

You're getting a great provider of quality stuff (organic food, craft beer) mixed up with the watering hole (coors light, pretzels) down the street.

Stone isn't a fucking BAR, dude. Did you happen to notice the employment stats I posted?

::)

I hate to think that the HUGE minded people here are missing the point...

Umm... AnheuserBusch and MillerCoors are doing well too, yes, but WE' ARENT TALKING ABOUT THEM!!! This is a local brewery dammit!!!

Bocce!!! Bocce!!! Organic Farms!!

They already had beer! The point is they are expanding in areas that aren't beer!

Just saw a bunch of their beer on sale by the bottle at AEON, one of Japan's largest retailers, about $9 a bottle.
