Many Christians end up being demon possessed, because they think 1 Jn 4:4 makes them bullet-proofed against Satan’s attacks.
1 Jn 4:4 …“because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. “
Yet, mere indwelling by the Holy Spirit is NOT enough to guarantee immunity from the Devil, because we are told to resist; we are not told to relax.
Jas 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
How do we resist?
How can we make him flee?
Eph 6:13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
Eph 6:14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
Eph 6:15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
Eph 6:16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
Eph 6:17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
Notice that “loins girt” cannot make an opponent flee.
Notice that shield and helmet cannot make opponent flee either.
None of those can carry on the fight, because those are defensive implements.
Sword is the only offensive weapon mentioned. The only weapon capable of making the Devil flee is the word of God.
Without the Book, such as *indwelling by the Holy Spirit*, *charisma*, and *feelings in the bosom* cannot not make Devil run from you or leave you alone; you will fail to "withstand in the evil day", whick may eventually lead to demon-possession.
The only offensive weapon is the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God (the Bible), which you must learn to wield.
That is our only offensive weapon.
It is the Book.
