Greets, folks!

JQP has just informed me that the spam problems we've been experiencing are solved. He's implemented Admin approval for new accounts, we should be able to weed out most of them by name and/or location, and deal with the rest in "batches" to be released when the mods have been apprised of a new set of registrations. While its impossible to be TOTALLY spamproof, this should get us 99% of the way there.

Thanks to everyone for your patience with this, and thanks to JQP for the fix!

Oh... not necessarily, Ponce! Just post your email address on the open forum without any changes, and you'll get all the Viagra from Ukraine you could ever want! :D

My friend was really unsatisfied with the wiener-extender cream they bought over the internets! :(

I know of another vBulletin BB where new users can't post any clickable URLs until after their post count is 5. Combine that with say, 10 mins between posts for noobs' first 5, and that would weed out all but the most determined, b4 they could get their spam url (clickable- not "broken") under the noses of real users.

I'm not sure what the web-language is for it*, "rich text" or maybe "objects" but either case, that same vBulletin BB above also is rigged where, pasting text into a post from say a news article or whatever with pics and embedded links etc- all those pics & links paste seamlessly into the new post without any further coding. I was hoping this new GSUS implementation would have that feature, but evidently not... this GSUS implementation seems to be fairly bare-bones relative to some vBulletin BB's I've seen. Do they charge extra for each whistle/bell like that, or are these other vB features just free add-ons which can be installed?

*edit: this could be "WYSIWYG", but anyways this other vB also changes the text to your chosen style right there in the compose box- IE select some text for italics or hyperlink, and it makes the change right there in your compose box, rather than just marking it up with visible formatting tags. So you've pretty much already got a "preview" of how your post is going to look, without having to use the preview function.

separately, this is surely addressed elsewhere if others have the same experience, but for me, hitting "Reply to Thread" takes me to the "quick reply" function at the bottom of a thread. So if I want the full menu of features (font style, size, color etc), and I click "Go Advanced", it goes to a new page, but the whole menu of formatting features is AWOL-- not even the simple functions are there like in Quick Reply. Do others find this too?

To get the editor with all the fruit go into Settings (top right on my page). Then go into My Account -> General settings and scroll down the page until you get to Miscellaneous Options and Message editor interface. Choose the Enhanced WYSIWYG option. Choose that one.

Thanks, I selected:
Message Editor Interface: Enhanced Interface - Full WYSIWYG Editing

and did a small test with pasting some text with link & pic, but neither links nor pic were pasted, only plain text some of which was clickable links in the source copied- and no pic.

but the "Go Advanced" editor is now populated with the proper editing functions. This should be the default config for a new user account, or those who've been migrated over. As the default now apparently is, the "Quick Reply" function has more fruits than the "Go Advanced" page, :p
