A Jewish rabbinical court condemned to death by stoning a stray dog it feared was the reincarnation of a lawyer who insulted its judges, reports say.

The dog entered the Jerusalem financial court several weeks ago and would not leave, reports Israeli website Ynet.

It reminded a judge of a curse passed on a now deceased secular lawyer about 20 years ago, when judges bid his spirit to enter the body of a dog.

The animal is said to have escaped before the sentence was carried out.

One of the judges at the court in the city's ultra-Orthodox Mea Shearim neighbourhood had reportedly asked local children to carry out the sentence.

I would not consider stoning a dog to death a trivial or just action. While we have since established different cultures treat dogs in different ways, the sentence passed by the rabbinical court is an admission to its own lack of credibility and paranoia. If I witnessed a pack of children stoning a dog I would not hesitate to intervene, perhaps stoning them instead. Some things are just not right, and ordering the brutal and slow torture of a dog is one of them. It speaks volumes to the arrogant power of the bench and its heartless membership. I could just as easily say a lawyer spirit inhabited my martini olive.

When I was about nine this guy was stoning a dog infront of my house, I got hold of a rock and was able to hit the guy on the arm......the guy chase me to the door of my home and started to yell for me to come out, my dad asked me what was going on and I told him.................my dad went out and knock the guy to the ground and chased him down the streed.........sorry to say that the dog was in bad shape and the Dr across the street hat to shoot it.
