You may have an Iodine deficiency.

"was often used in the treatment of gout."

You can also take 10% Betadine and rub a 6" patch on your abdomen [do it daily] or take Kelp supplements. Don't rely on the minuscule amount in table salt.

Gout

Gout, which is another joint disease connected to weak liver performance, is caused by sodium urate crystals in joints and tendons. Gout occurs in some people whose blood uric acidis abnormally high. When gallstones in the liver begin to affect blood circulation in the kidneys, uric acid excretion becomes inefficient. This also causes increased cell damage and cell destruction in the liver and kidneys, as well as in other parts of the body.

Uric acid is a waste product resulting from the breakdown of cell nuclei; it is produced in excess with increased cell destruction. Smoking cigarettes, drinking alcoholic beverages regularly, using stimulants, etc. all cause marked cell destruction, which releases large quantities of degenerate cell protein into the bloodstream. In addition, uric acid production rises sharply with over-consumption of protein foods, such as meat, fish, pork, and eggs. Incidentally, all the aforementioned foods and substances lead to gallstone formation in the liver and gallbladder.

A person may experience several acute attacks of arthritis before damage to the joints decreases mobility and the gout condition becomes chronic.

Lots of natural suggestions here:

The baking soda in water makes sense as it alkalinizes the body and helps dissolve monosodium urate crystals which are the offending agent causing joint pain. Others claim success with alfalfa pills. Certainly I would maintain a well-hydrated state with lots of clean water (maybe with a teaspoon of apple cidar vinegar in a glass?) and eliminate the offending agents which classically include red meats and red wines.

Vitamin C Helps Prevent Gout
Recently, study was published that assessed the relationship between vitamin C intake and risk of gout in almost 47,000 men. All the men had no history of gout when they entered the study. Their intakes of vitamin C (via diet and supplements) were assessed every 4 years over a 20-year period.

Risk of gout was found to be lower in individuals with higher vitamin C intake. Compared to individuals with a total vitamin C intake of less than 250 mg per day, those with total intakes of 500 - 999 mg per day had a 17 percent reduced risk of gout. For intakes of 1,000 - 1,499 mg and 1,500 mg or more per day, the risk of getting gout was down by 34 and 45 percent, respectively.

The authors of this study also looked at the relationship between amounts of vitamin C ingested in supplement form only and risk of gout. Here again, higher supplemental levels were associated with a reduced risk of gout. Compared to those who did not supplement with vitamin C, those supplementing with 1,000 - 1,499 mg and 1,500 mg or more of vitamin C per day were found to be at 34 and 45 percent reduced risk of gout, respectively.

These results suggest that vitamin C, either from diet or supplements, is associated with a reduced risk of gout.

This jibes with research I recall reading about 25 years ago that in animals (and man), urate and ascorbate function inversely as anti-oxidants. For example, if ascorbate is low during oxidative stress, the body produces urate. While soluble urate is an excellent anti-oxidant, the crystalline form MSU is toxic to body tissues.

First time, I have it, went to emergency thinking I fractured something inside the foot. They took x-rays and could not find anything wrong with me. It was a elderly patient that mentioned to me that it could be gout, which my doctor confirmed.

Gotta tell you thought, it really hurts like a mother%&($^%!

Thanks for the tips on Vitamin C and Iodine, since I am not much on getting it.

Try a 10 or 20 day water fast.

Go longer if you can. After 3 weeks you will be detoxified on a cellular level, and feeling like a million bucks.

I know the prospect of not eating for that long is a massive mental hurdle, but once you do it and live, and regain health, you realize that there is nothing to it!
