If the media were to create an ideal illegal alien poster boy to gin up propaganda for the DREAM Act, he would look a lot like Jose Antonio Vargas, the Washington Post Reporter who just "came out" as an illegal alien in an interview with ABC News and in a 4,600 word long self-feature in the New York Times Magazine.

Beneath all these tired clichés, the main fact that struck me from his article is just how easy it is for an illegal alien to live in this country without consequence. While he claimed he first found out he was illegal when he tried to apply for a driver’s license, he still managed to get multiple driver’s licenses. His grandparents' lawyer connected him a scholarship fund which "was not concerned with immigration status." The scholarship provided for tuition, books, housing, food, and living expenses. He used a fake photocopied social security card to pass muster when applying for jobs, and did not lose a single job due to his illegal status.
Despite the complete lack of any consequences, Vargas still repeatedly states how much "fear" his illegal status caused him. Supposedly inspired by the "courage" of illegal alien students who openly disclosed their status to lobby for the DREAM Act, he made the decision to do the same.
And of course, the Main Stream Media and other immigration enthusiasts endlessly repeated how "courageous" he is. The cover of the Washington Express today states "Illegal but Unafraid." Libertarian law professor Bryan Caplan blogged "Define Courage: The Jose Antonio Vargas Story." Noreen Malone of New York Magazine wrote, "The bar just got a whole lot higher for describing personal essays as 'brave.'"

While Vargas is a skilled wordsmith, there are plenty of unemployed American journalists who would be more than happy to write for the Washington Post.
If he were deported to the Philippines, where the unemployment rate is lower than it is in America, this job could open up for one of those students.
Of course, there is no way that Obama will deport someone who openly confesses to breaking both our immigration laws and committing felony document fraud, and Vargas’ career as a journalist will only profit from his open law-breaking.
