During DOOM in the desert I noticed the LT was making his own cigarettes. He hooked me up with getting a Top-O-Matic, and empty cigarettes with filters and all you need next is just the tobacco.
While I don't condone smoking, I got my machine tonight and banged out like 20 cigs in maybe 15 minutes between figuring out how much tobacco to put blah blah blah, and then the light when off when I realized that to make then was a fraction of what it costs at the store.
WTSHTF, cigarettes and booze will become GOLD. I would have put this in the prep section, but I wanted to thank LT, and also put a bug in people's ears about having something that could be traded with. Just something to think about.
Again, thanks LT, you're the man brother.

it does, but you can put a slice of potato or an apple slice in the tobacco pouch or can to help keep it fresh.

Not if it is vacuum packed , it will almost keep forever. Used to roll my own back when, but non filtered. and not mj ether. Several machines or devices to do the trick.
One of my favorites. a bamboo roller, would fit in tobacco pouch.

I did that a while back. Picked up three topomatic T2 chrome ones. I have about 3 - 4 smokes a day. I don't smoke at all during the day at work. Super cheap, and I have a couple dozen pounds of Daughters and Ryan SJ Rimboche all stored in large glass jars. Excellent quality tobacco by comparison to the fast food varieties. Tried all the other D&R's and settled on SJR. Total barter item.
Check out this site if you're interested http://www.smokingpipes.com/tobacco/by-maker/Daughters-Ryan/index.cfm

What if it's seal packed without any oxygen?

it should be pretty good for a while if it is sealed properly. Tabacco is very expensive down here these days. It costs $17 - $18 per 25.
Getting some seeds and growing your own would be a useful plan. There are a few interesting sites covering home growing tabacco. Seeds and growing are banned in Australia but I think its ok in New Zealand. I'm pretty sure growing is ok in the US. It seems like it's pretty easy to do as well.

If under vacuum it will keep dam near forever, the apple thing works and also gives a flavor, when used in an open tobacco can.

Just pack it into an airtight glass jar. Moisture is the key factor, if it's cured properly it lasts forever....literally....hundreds of years+ You don't need to vaccum seal it, and you want a little bit of air anyways so the leaf can breathe off a little bit and finish curing/aging properly.
Don't store in plastic. Just pack it into a jar that will take about a pound, and seal it up. Voila.

Umm, not that I would know ;), but make sure it is very dry and seal in a mason jar using a vacuum sealer.

When stationed in Thailand, back when, the local rolling papers did not have glue on them, Ask friends from the states to send papers, and when we would get them, they would stick together, pull one out of the pack and they all would come out of the pack. The humidity there was a killer. >:( Back when 20 sticks = 20 baht. ;D;D

Not the best of blends but when bullets are flying and you need a smoke I doubt you are going to give too much of a shit if it is not that Gucci a blend.

Cigars can store for years , I don't know why you couldn't do the same with cigarettes or tobacco.

They have these things at smoke shops that are about the size of a button on a coat. You run them under water for a few seconds and they hold the moisture and release it slowly. You then put them in the can of tobacco.

I store my spare packs of cigarettes in the freezer.
I don't know if it works for a long time, because I burn through a pack a day, so... Who knows. I have been told that keeping smokes in the freezer will keep them from getting stale.

Maybe, because the packs are not air tight. People I know believe in vacuum packing everything, but as others have said on this thread, store them in a air tight container, and maybe some apple pieces thrown in, and you should be good to go. At the rate you burn em, you may need a huge supply. Bulk pack tobacco the main thing is to store in an airtight container at the very least.

there are cheaper brands available, as low as $7/pack... or you could drive to the indian reserve and buy a carton for$30 ($3.75/pack), and buy cheaper gas while you're there! lol

Glad to be of assistance my friend :) It warms my heart anytime the .gov gets screwed out of even one red cent and everytime I crank the machine over it's like a big ol' F You! to the greedy bastards. The 1st year I did this I figured I saved somewhere between 2K and 2.5K! Of course I smoke a lot too.
Yeah, getting tobacco online is now forbidden, so, establishing a good repoire with your local smoke shop is a great idea. I always buy 10lbs at a time and it saves me a lot of money as well as not having to always make that trip. It stays fresh in those sealed bags, even in high heat. If it does dry up a bit the paper towel trick works well or you can get a few "water pillows" to re moisten the tobacco.
I've been smoking the Dark Horse brand up until I tried a new one I found called The Good Stuff, made in N Carloina, excellent quality! The tubes and machines can still be bought online though.
We've got some tobacco growing in WV, I'll have to get some pics next week. I'll be trying to mentholate some this fall, should be fun. Next year I'll be growing a crop of my own and I'm really looking forward to that.
I've tried several machines but thye Top machine is the overall best. There is a round plastic Gambler machine that does a real good job rolling finer tobacco and it's a bit cheaper and you can never have too many machines!
Edit to add: My cost per pack is approx $1.15-$1.25!

Drum was always a favorite of mine, but they are heavy on the lungs if you smoke more than 10 smoke a day, imo.
Love the flavor though!!

i like drum too, great flavor! i'm bringing a bale of drum on the canoe trip tomorrow!! no nasty filters to litter with, and should last me longer than the ten days we're going for, all for the equivalent cost of about 2 packs of premium brand smokes...

Non reservation smokes are over $7 per pack here in AZ. The red man is sticking it to YT over at the casino. That's where they are getting their revenge.

They run about a $1.80 a pack with the current taxing.

The problem with freezing smokes is that if the tobacco has any moisture in it the moisture crystalizes, reducing flavor and spotting the cig with the thawed moisture, IOW...they look and taste bad.
