i hope this is the right place to post this, i found a couple of 6 inch plates they say sterling, was wondering if these are the real deal. thanks for the help.

If it's hallmarked with "sterling", that's about as good as it gets. The plate certainly looks correct, I don't see any evidence of it being an alloy and it doesn't look like steel or nickel.

Looks like someone used a vibrator pen to write "sterling".

Thanks Freespirit, they had 5 more i think. they open at nine in the morning, i will be waiting.

Palani, the plate is engraved with a wedding date but the words Kirk & Sons, sterling and 58 looks different than the engraving. here's hoping.

Good article, to add I found this with some pics of hallmarks..looks like those plates date back to the early 1920's or so.

Very good find, and score. For $11.83 you profited close to $820.00 if the plates were 3.5 troy oz , 0.925 silver each. And depending on how rare they are, and the hallmarks suggest they were made in the mid 1800's , they maybe worth much more than melt.
