Why is gold up $10 while silver is down almost a dollar? I'm used to seeing both of them act together, either both up or both down, why the disparity today? I could understand if it were minor, i.e. silver down a few cents while gold up a few bucks, but this seems to be something else. Any thoughts?

I'd guess it's because the main driver for today was the European debt issues for which gold is a more well-defined safe haven in global markets, compared to the more speculative silver play. I'd expect that if there's follow-through up move in gold tomorrow, it would be accompanied by a "catch-up" surge in silver.

Silver is a worthless product of a medieval past; no medical, practical, monetary or industrial uses... the dollar is much more valuable... sell your silver and forget about it.

This seems to be happening this afternoon. Gold up 0.9%, Silver up 1.3%.
