Three explosions have shaken India's commercial capital Mumbai (Bombay), local media reported police as saying.
Initial reports say dozens of people have been wounded.
One explosion was reported in the busy Zaveri Bazaar, another near the Opera House and a third in the south of the city.
The blasts coincide with the birthday of Mohammad Ajmal Amir Qasab, the sole surviving gunman from the 2008 Mumbai attacks which killed nearly 170 people.
Indian media have quoted the home ministry as saying the explosions are a terrorist attack.

NEW DELHI — At least three explosions shook the city of Mumbai at the height of the evening rush hour on Wednesday, in what appeared to be coordinated attacks on India’s economic capital. The Interior Ministry described the explosions as a terror attack, India’s NDTV reported.
Indian news outlets reported that at least 10 people were killed, and that dozens may have been injured.
The explosions struck central locations in the city, including the crowded Dadar neighborhood; the Zaveri Bazaar, a jewelry market; and near the Opera House, according to news reports citing the Interior Ministry.
NDTV reported that a fourth explosive device was found in Mumbai but that it had not gone off.

Mumbai Bombing: Indian Gov't Blames Terrorists (http://www.ibtimes.com/articles/179408/20110713/mumbai-bombing-india-terrorist-attack.htm)
Three bombs were detonated in Mumbai, India (http://www.ibtimes.com/topics/detail/420/india/) on Wednesday. The government has so far confirmed 13 deaths and 83 injuries, but media reports have the numbers higher. Some claim that there are at least 20 deaths and hundreds of wounded persons.
The government has declared the bombings an act of terrorism, something with which the city of Mumbai is sadly familiar.
"There is chaos everywhere. This must be a terrorist act as it happened in three places," senior Shiv Sena Party leader Manohar Joshi told reporters.
The explosive devices were detonated during rush hour in heavily populated areas of the city, including a jewelry market and the area surrounding the Opera House.
"It is very unfortunate that once again Mumbai has to go through this unfortunate situation. I feel that the need of the hour is to take the injured to the hospital. Just when the feeling of confidence was developing in Mumbai. It has shaken up our city again," former Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan told the press in India (http://www.ibtimes.com/topics/detail/420/india/).
In his statement, Chavan was making a reference to a 2008 attack, when armed gunmen from Pakistan (http://www.ibtimes.com/topics/detail/378/pakistan/) stormed Mumbai, killing 164 people.
According to local police, the explosion at the Opera House was the most powerful of the three. The injured are being rushed to hospitals in make-shift ambulances and trucks.
