Seems with all spammers this might be an alternate route, I know they had to do that at the old goy is money website.
Any thoughts?

Know they are a pain in the ass for the mods, the super posting spammer yesterday, was amazing in the speed of pollution spread.
Know some of us like to rip at them for entertainment value.
A bunch are being filter out everyday, if you watch the "who is on line" screen, you will see a bunch registering but never make it here. The mods are filtering all of the time. So a few get in , but not for long. ;D
Imho if it was on a once a month thing , the mods would have their hands full and I think they would not enjoy it. There would be a flood of new apps, unless like, the forum that shall not be named, make it a random opening.
Our mods are doing a great job now, just as it is. Why ask them to work any harder? A few a day v/s a mob at once?
Just saying imho.

Bad Idea...
We are not awesome enough for that. Awesome sites can do that. Noob sites can't do that.
I mean- this is an awesome noob site- but we aren't attracting enough of a growth rate to be so exclusive.
It'd become a bigger circlejerk than it already is.

Sounds a little to "GIMish" to me. I can see the logic, but I fear the next step will be to invite Skyvike here as a moderator. (Kidding)

Talking like that even in jest may get you a fast ticket to this place.

I'd say no, but its for sure above my pay grade. I had to wait long enough to join the old GIM wanting to register then forgetting it was the only day inthe month I could. Same thing with this site waited a couple months before I could register. I think JJ makes some good points too.

I think that's a good idea General. Except it should be on a random schedule, as opposed to a set schedule.
If the spammers can't register whenever they want, and they also have no idea when they will be able to, they won't stick around.
But if real people come here and end up liking the place, they'll stick around just to find out when they can join.
Another lees attractive option would be to turn off registration during the nighttime hours as the spammers seem to like registering in the dead of night. Or at least it seems that way.

Imagine if that time of the month were on random schedule...

when GIM was still around, i tried and tried to register, but NEVER could. the registration was on a random day, and after trying for about 2 months, i finally gave up on it.
sure, we may get some spammers from time to time, but they tend to get rooted out pretty quickly.
i like it the way it is, but adding a "no posts for three days" rider to membership, would probably help the situation somewhat.

This forum is about freedom, so let people be free to register when they want.

I'm a believer in "If it ain't broke don't fix it". I don't think this site is broke and if we go trying to fix it it might get all f'''ed up.

Strange how we didn't have a spammer problem before the move to VB. I was under the impression that VB would improve security... But on the other hand I can't see youtube videos any longer on my ipod touch...

Therefore, relative to spamming, it's broken.
