Illinois license plates could get ads (http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/politics/clout/chi-illinois-license-plates-could-get-ads-20110728,0,2178472.story)

The Illinois (http://www.chicagotribune.com/topic/us/illinois-PLGEO100100500000000.topic) Secretary of State’s office will study the possibility of placing corporate logos on license plates under a measure Gov. Pat Quinn (http://www.chicagotribune.com/topic/politics/government/pat-quinn-PEPLT007466.topic) signed into law Thursday.

That means drivers could one day see advertisements on their plates, the idea being corporations would be willing to shell out big bucks for the right to turn vehicles into rolling billboards. It’s possible drivers would be offered a discounted vehicle registration fee to entice them to display the branded plates.

The study also will focus on the cost of implementing such a program and how much public interest there might be.

It is due to lawmakers by Jan. 1.

Illinois already offers a wide variety of plates promoting special causes, which are sold at a higher fee with the money benefiting various charitable or research organizations.

I don't even know what to say. Are LED plates with rolling ads next?
