So last night as my wife is soothing our daughter (just started teething) the phone rings.

Me: Hello?

F.O.P: Hi (Ares) I'm so and so calling on behalf of the F.O.P. and the state police would like to remind you click it or ticket.

Me: (Interrupting his scripted bullshit) How is fining someone for not wearing a seat belt saving lives?

F.O.P: Huh?

Me: How is fining someone for not wearing a seat belt saving lives?

F.O.P: I don't know, would you like to make a donation for the family of fallen officers?

Me: I thought that's what their Union pensions were for?

F.O.P: I don't know.

Me: Yes it is, the wife and offspring are entitled to a portion of their fathers pension in the result of being killed in the line of duty.

F.O.P: I didn't know that.

Me: Really? Considering that the F.O.P lobbies against state, county and local legislators attempting to remove that perk I find that hard to believe.

F.O.P. ..........

Me: You still there?

F.O.P: So I take it you will not be making a donation today?

Me: What tipped you off there detective? When the police start upholding the constitution you know that document they sore an oath too, then I'll consider donating to the families of fallen officers. Until then you're only going get what you'll already get at the threat of violence.

F.O.P: ........

Me: Hang up.

I have no idea how they even got my number. I've never donated before, or ever will with the current attitude officers have towards the populace.

I got called too, and everytime they call they also give the seatbelt reminder. As soon as they are finished with the reminder I say "oh, thank you for that" and hang up with no further dialogue taking place.

Yeah I should probably do the same thing. I realize I'm just making myself a target. But oh well, just get tired of the bullshit hero worship that most people have regarding police.

He was probably expecting, "Oh, the families of fallen officers, How much can I give? Is there any limitations?"

Probably got thrown off when I reminded him that their Union pensions compensate the family of a fallen police officer.

You were speaking to a contracted donation collection agency that has no relation to the FOP.
They get to keep a percentage of the take...you get taken if you donate.
You should treat them as any cold call sales person.

Oh I do, I have fun with cold sales calls. :)

I used to work in market research (I lasted a week literally before I called the manager a fag and walked out.) where I got hung up on all the time. Didn't matter to me. What I always thought kind of funny, or interesting were the people who would attempt to turn the questioning around and ask me questions. But being more interactive than a dial tone can be more fun if you mentally prepare yourself for it and just put the questioner in his/her place letting them know they are working for a corrupt organization.

I was thinking of calling my local Police and asking for donations for innocently killed citizens by Police, or for innocent citizens who need money to defend themselves from a Tyrannical Government.

Not sure how enthusiastic they will be though.....

If you do that, please record and upload. I'll host it off my bandwidth if need be. :-D

You gave me a great idae!

I just made 10 cold calls asking for donations for VOPA (victims of police abuse)

The donations are for family members that lost loved one's killed by police and for the defense of innocent victims that were wrongly arrested or abused.

Amazing, everyone I called offered money before I even asked for it...I'm up $180 already!

To deposit in my VOPA PayPal account. http://www.twncommunications.net/Forum/public_html/yabbfiles/Smilies/GrouchoMarx.gif

Just make sure that you regiser as a 503c and then you can have all the VOPA celebrations you want. Does it really matter if most of the dough goes to administrative costs?

Thanks, it does cost a lot to run a charity organization.

Take out loans on projected income from donations. Might as well get the cash upfront instead wasting time cold calling people. ;D
