Ford Motor Company is recalling 120,000 F-150 trucks in Canada after an investigation revealed that fuel tanks could fall onto the road. Three fires and one injury have been blamed on the problem, where straps holding fuel tanks in place could corrode and break, sending the tank onto the road.
Affected models include: 1997-2004 F-150 pickups; 1997-1999 F-250 pickups; and 2002-2003 Lincoln Blackwood pickups.
The total recall across Canada and the U.S. totals 1.1 million units. Trucks in cold weather states—21 in total—were recalled as a precautionary measure last year but decided to fix all affected vehicles free of charge.
Ford says the trucks most affected are high-mileage ones that are used during the winter months in areas that use de-icing measures.
