Bitcoins... the OTHER dogmeat! ;D

Seriously, though... TPTB pretty much HATE silver and bitcoins, and seem to be trying their best to suppress both.

Same here... until I did some research on Bitcoins. It's a legitimate untraceable and unmanipulatable alternate currency - a true threat to TPTB if it were to catch on.

I hope you guys don't hate me for what's happened. I feel guilty my support for it has lost people money on this forum. I was hoping enough people would do it and it would become unstoppable against the bankers/government. Instead what happened is the establishment hacked and destroyed many of the centralized exchanges/services for Bitcoin and destroyed the confidence. The core people who support Bitcoin are very good people. I really believe that they are striving for the same change we on this forum generally desire (anarchy/libertarian principles.)

Most of my money that I lost was stolen from me by a chargeback scam when I sold Bitcoins and, then the person I sold it to got a chargeback on their money claiming I stole their money. This chargeback almost destroyed my business since it was done in the virtual world I work in, so my entire business account was frozen, it scared me shitless. I did get things sorted out, but I still lost the money.

I don't know the future of Bitcoin but I don't want to jump back in right now. I'd rather just focus on Gold and Silver since it hasn't let me down (yet), but I will continue support crypto-currencies since I think that's way we free humanity: The challenge it security and education for the public. The government and bankers pulled all out stops that I know they did to destroy confidence, this was an all out war.

Again, I'm very sorry if my beliefs have lost people money. I do still believe in the fundamentals of the technology, but I greatly misjudged groupthink and how people would treat this. It became a pump and dump, and a clusterfuck in confidence with all the successful attacks, and my own greed made me overlook this. I just hope people understand that the technology DOES work. If enough people get into this, and all of these security issues are worked out, it should work next time.

i tried to figure it out, but it's like linux. yeah, i figured it out **eventually**, but there's too many back up this folder, have 10 copies of this on a flash drive "just in case," have this program running + mining, etc. to make it useable for the average person. this dooms it to being nerd currency.

I don't blame anybody... I also looked carefully into it... seemed a good bet (risk)... but you can't win them all...

I did manage to buy, sell and re-buy at a profit... once ago...

It looks like Joe King has weighed in on Bitcoins on post #4, which should tell everyone here who is paying attention all you need to know about its legitimacy as a technology and a currency.

What is it that keeps the PTB from getting into it too, and doing what Shami is saying happened?

In my estimation, it's like trying to start a private club, while allowing anyone from the general public to join the club.
...and then wondering why it's suddenly manipulated the same as virtually everything else.

No need for an apology, the membership of this forum is intelligent enough to know the principles of "Buyer Beware" and "Do your own due dilligence".

I was just asking what mechanism is it that keeps the PTB from entering the bit-coin market in a quest to undermine it?

This is why I call them "nerd dollars".

And I am shocked! Shocked I tell you to hear that the nerd dollar market is going to shit. Who could have seen that coming?

So how high had bitcoins been?
I never really followed them as I didn't like the idea of my $ being only on a computer. Computers can be hacked.
...but I like the concept of bitcoins.

Edited to add: I feel bad for anyone who lost their $ on them too. That includes you Ximmy.

they got up to $30

Also, $8 or $5 or $1 is still pretty impressive seeing as bitcoins started at about $0.001 apiece.

I think the true price would have been around $19-$20 until the first major pump/dump happened. The price shot up to $30, then crashed back down into the low teens, but then it recovered back to where it was originally at $19-$20.

A bunch of things happened after that that destroyed confidence. Watch the video below for more details:
---Silk Road Saga: Media tells everyone it's only used for drugs
---E-Wallet Missing! Saga: Claims that E-wallets are stolen. This is more from ignorance on how to handle Bitcoins (like not password protecting it.)
---Goxed Saga: Mt Gox hack (happened right after CIA conference with Gavin Andresen). Almost no Bitcoins were stolen, even though the hacker(s) had the ability to loot millions without any trace. They just hacked in and purposely crashed the market down to 0.
---DDoS Saga: A bunch of DDoS attacks on pool miners.
---YouTube Shill Saga: A bunch of fake videos of popular pro-Bitcoin videos were uploaded with similar thumbnail preview images and titles. They
---MyBitcoin Saga: Largest/oldest E-wallet site goes AWOL and into receivership. I consider this the nail in the coffin, especially when the largest cheerleader of Bitcoin (Bruce Wagner (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XibjzbhmPE4)) lost basically of his Bitcoins through here.

History of the attacks, SKIP TO 4:18:

By the way, if you're wondering if the voice sounds familiar, this is the same YouTuber as the Silver channel BrotherJohnF (http://www.youtube.com/user/BrotherJohnF).

So how do you keep anyone from doing that stuff?
ie everything from those trying to make a quick $ pumping and dumping to the ones who don't like it trying to sabatoge it?

Sounds like a lesson in classic human-nature, to me.
ie everyone's ultimately out for only themselves....and the PTB use that fact to their advantage.
